Playoffs Start Tonight For Maple Leafs et al.

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

The NHL heats up again tonight with playoff implications in a number of games - none more important than Toronto hosting the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at the Air Canada Centre. The Leafs will have to shake off Sunday night's awful performance at Madison Square Garden and win their eighth in a row at home. Toronto will be looking to Andrew Raycroft to take the pressure off a defence that has been beaten up over the last couple of weeks, and for Captain Mats Sundin to break out of his scoring slump and tie (if not surpass) former Leafs great Darryl Sittler for number one on the all-time goal scoring list. It goes without saying that tonight is a must win - a loss against the Flyers would be nothing short of devastating. Three games left in the season and Toronto needs to run the table, with a win in regulation against Montreal on Saturday night to guarantee themselves a date with "Lindy" Ruff's Sabres - anything short of that means the Leafs need some help.

Leaf Nation will also be looking for help from the Boston Bruins tonight at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Boston has been playing some uninspired and disinterested hockey over the last few weeks - but we are hoping that a game against their arch-rivals will bring out the best in them. We're hoping that Patrice Bergeron, Marc Savard and Zdeno Chara play tonight like they normally do in Montreal. A win tonight in Montreal would be very much appreciated in Toronto - and we can safely say that Hazel would be one happy girl if the Bruins won tonight.

We'll leave it at that for today - nothing more to be said with regards to tonight.

If you think I'm avoiding Opening Day yesterday, because of the Dodgers loss to the Brewers - congratulations, you are absolutely right and you win absolutely nothing for it. I'm not going to go into yesterday's game; just like I'm not going to talk about Curt Schilling getting his ass handed to him in Kansas City yesterday - does that work for you Red Sox Nation? I thought so.

HAZEL'S THREE STARS

Seattle Mariners P Felix Hernandez was untouchable yesterday in a 4-0 win over the Oakland A's. Hernandez pitched eight shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks, while striking out twelve. Unfortunately, Hernandez isn't part of the 2007 edition of the Maeple Leafs in the yahoo fantasy baseball pool.

Cincinnati Reds OF Adam Dunn (still coveted by Red Sox Nation) had two HRs and three RBI to lead the Reds to a 5-1 victory over the new-look Chicago Cubs.

Atlanta Braves SS Edgar Renteria (still despised by Red Sox Nation) also had two HRs and three RBI to lead the Braves to a surprising opening day victory over tough guy Brett "the wife beater" Myers and the Philadelphia Phillies.

TUESDAY THREE PLAY
Wow, did we ever blow up yesterday - a miserable 0-3 yesterday to start of the week at - $690. No worries though, we'll get it back. We'll string together a few good nights like last week.

Minnesota over Edmonton - After losing two in a row at home to the Flames last week, the Wild are going to take it out on someone - might as well be the Oilers. Lay $100 on the Wild - $ 370.

Houston over Pittsburgh - the Astos blew one yesterday, costing us big on the Three Play; expect them to win tonight against the Pirates. Lay $100 on Houston - $175.

Nashville over Chicago - the Predators still have an outside chance at winning their division, plus they will want to stay ahead of San Jose to maintain home ice advantage in the first round - they won't let this one get away from them. Lay $100 on Nashville - $ 400.

We can't end this entry without congratulating the Florida Gators who won their second consecutive NCAA Men's Basketball Championship with an 84-75 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes - we don't do college basketball here...but we watched it.

HAZEL'S TUESDAY HOROSCOPE
Do a little investigating and you will discover you are on the right track. Travel plans should be made. Someone with more experience will teach you a lesson that will help you in the future. 3 stars
