Ugh

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Opening Day Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

A forgettable night at Madison Square Gardens for the Maple Leafs and Leaf Nation - there isn't much to say other than we laid an egg. The Maple Leafs played their worst game in weeks last night - getting out-worked, out-hit, out-chanced, out everything. Every facet of Toronto's game was weak last night; from Andrew Raycroft letting in a bad second period goal to allow the Rangers to go up 3-2, to Toronto's defence that didn't move the puck well or keep up with New York's forwards, to Toronto's forwards that were pushed off the puck all night long. The highlight of the night was seeing Darcy Tucker fight Rangers pest Sean Avery and land a bomb on Avery's rock head. Avery had a great game last night - but for a guy who was shooting his mouth off before the game and during the first period - he got awfully quiet after being tagged by Tucker; I guess getting nailed in the pie hole made Avery focus on the game.

It was a night to forget - move on and think about the Flyers on Tuesday night. Leaf Nation will be looking to the Bruins to play ONE good game down the stretch and beat the Habs on Tuesday.

Major League Baseball really gets going today with an almost full slate of games in both leagues - the Dodgers open up in Milwaukee this afternoon against the Brewers. Former Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe takes the mound for the Dodgers against Ben Sheets - Sheets has battled a number of injuries over the last couple of years, it will be interesting to see how he opens up. We're taking the Dodgers to win this one.

Boston Red Sox "Ace" Curt Schilling is taking the day off from blogging on 38pitches.com to start against $11M man Gil Meche and the Kansas City Royals. Nice way to start out the season if you are the Red Sox - I say this knowing the Royals gave the Sox all they could handle last year. No way Boston loses today - enjoy the 2007 season Hazel.

HAZEL'S THREE STARS
San Jose Sharks C Joe Thornton had four assists in a 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings yesterday - Thornton leads the league in assists this year.

San Jose Sharks RW Johnathan Cheechoo had a hat-trick last night to lead the Sharks - Thornton has got Cheechoo going like he did last year...that's good news for the Sharks and bad news for the Western Conference.

New York Mets 1B Carlos Delgado drove in the first two runs of the 2007 season with a double in the 3rd inning of last night's game against the Cardinals. Hazel would be down with highlighting her old pal's night.

MONDAY THREE PLAY
We wrapped up an amazing week with two more wins yesterday - finishing the week as a very respectable + $1,300. The year to date total stands at + $1,760. Our total for the last two weeks is + $2,520 - pretty damn good for free pics. We are going to dip our toe in the water and pick some baseball today - no surprises.

Boston over Kansas City - Schilling will be out to show everyone, especially Red Sox management, that he is still the team's go to guy. We don't even have to talk about Gil Meche - Boston gets it done on opening day against the Royals. Lay $100 on the Sox - $165.

Houston over Pittsburgh - the Pirates were brutal on the road last year - things aren't looking much better going against Roy Oswalt today. Lay $100 on the Astros - $210.

Dallas over St. Louis - the lone NHL game of the night. Dallas is still fighting for positioning, so expect them to come out hard tonight against a St. Louis team that has packed it in for the 2006/2007 season. Lay $100 on the Stars - $ 320.

That's it for this morning gang - enjoy Opening Day wherever you are reading from.

You will be pulled in different directions. Do not allow anyone to have an influence on the choices you make. Confront situations in person if it will give you a better understanding of what you need to do. 3 stars

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world - enjoy Opening Day, but don't forget Leaf Nation will be looking for the good karma this week.
