Leafs Taking A Kab To Playoffs!
Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.
Well, wherever you are reading this from - you probably heard the collective sigh of relief uttered by Leaf Nation last night, after Leafs D Tomas Kaberle scored the overtime winner against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. The Leafs blew another three goal lead, but managed to pull out the win in overtime after Pittsburgh tied the game with four seconds left - we didn't get to watch the game last night because we were stuck with the SenaTards game. A huge win for the Leafs in that they kept pace with Montreal who beat Buffalo by a 4-3 count last night.
As yes, the Buffalo Sabres. What can I say about Sabres coach Lindy Ruff, other than his decision to play Ty Conklin last night in a game that had playoff implications for a number of teams (yes, most notably Toronto) shows what a gutless piece of crap he is. For those of you that didn't watch the game, the Sabres rested Ryan Miller last night in favour of Ty Conklin, yes THE TY CONKLIN. Ruff's decision was calculated and cheap to say the least - it is pretty clear that the Sabres want to avoid playing Toronto in the first round of the playoffs because of the physical toll it will take on his team - so in essence, he gave up on the game hoping that Montreal would stay ahead of Toronto. Congratulations Lindy - you have become public enemy number 1 in the eyes of Leaf Nation (yes, moreso that Cam Janssen). A word of warning Lindy, your decision last night will not be forgotten and you should keep in mind that if you do face Toronto in the first round, expect the Leafs to beat on your bunch of pussy defencemen and make your forwards pay every time they touch the puck. Toronto may not be able to take you in the first round - but they'll make you and your players pay for your decision last night. Oh yeah, if you wind up playing Montreal - well Lindy boy, Karma has a way of kicking your stupid ass sometimes. Be careful what you wish for Lindy - cuz you'll get it in spades.
On to tonight - the Leafs trail the Habs by a point, with a game in hand; that game goes tonight at Madison Square Garden where the Leafs and the Rangers face off. I wouldn't exactly see this as a "must win" game - a point would do nicely, especially since Toronto has the road wimp Habs visiting the ACC next Saturday - but a win would really set up a good week for Toronto with games against Philadelphia and the Islanders, before the Habs on Saturday night. The Leafs could make a real statement with a win tonight in New York against the suddenly hot Rangers - Where have you gone Mats Sundin? Leaf Nation turns its lonely eyes to you. We're calling for a 3-2 shootout win tonight at MSG, with Sundin scoring to tie former Leafs great Darryl Sittler for top spot on the team's all-time goal scoring list. Go Leafs Go.
HAZEL'S THREE STARS
Leafs D Tomas Kaberle had two goals and an assist in last night's 5-4 overtime win against the Penguins. The Leafs are a different team with this guy in the lineup.
Tampa Bay C Vincent Lecavalier had a goal and two assists in a 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals.
New York Rangers LW Jaromir Jagr had two goals and an assist in a 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Dallas Stars C Mike Modano had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over the Predators.
We are picking four stars today because Kaberle would certainly get a thumbs up from Hazel - and the other three finished 1-2-3 in the Pro Picks scoring pool yesterday in Ontario - guess who picked Lecavalier, Jagr and Modano to finish 1-2-3? The payout was 110-1, I won't mention how many pieces of whale blubber I put down.
SUNDAY THREE PLAY
Another great night last night, three more winners and + $275 on the night, bringing our total for the week up to $1,110 - yes THE WEEK. I should be charging for these picks. Two suggestions today.
New Jersey over Boston - the Devils need the game, plain and simple. The Bruins were done weeks ago. Lay $100 on the Devils - $300.
San Jose over LA Kings - San Jose trying to keep pace with everyone in the west - the Kings are ready to pack it in. Lay $100 on the Sharks - $390.
That's it for today gang - have a great one peeps. Remember, GO LEAFS GO.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.
Song of the Day on Hazelspeeps - I could go with the obvious "New York, New York", especially since we hear Hazel likes Sinatra; the the Junos (Canadian music awards) go tonight and our girl Nelly Furtado is hosting; gotta go with the "Acoreana" over Sinatra.
Showtime - Nelly Furtado
