I don’t normally post on Thursdays but news is happening by the hour. I was going to post an entry about all the so-called insiders and the rumours they have heard…the rumours they write about – I think they just make them up because they don’t have anything else to write about…in other words taking a page from the Bruce Garrioch school of print journalism.

I won’t go into listing all of the rumours circulating around the MLB Winter Meetings – by the time they are written – a trade that discounts the rumour is made. I will say this, one of the funniest ones I read was a reporter who claimed there was a rumour that the Red Sox were talking to the Texas Rangers about trading Manny Ramirez to the Rangers for Alfonso Soriano AND Hank Blalock. If you follow the Sox…you can guess who came up with that one – ya right. For those of you who haven’t heard, Soriano was traded to the Nationals – short after the Sox-Rangers trade rumour was written about. So on to the day’s breaking news

MLB is front and center today with deals involving BIG names being made.

As mentioned the Rangers traded Soriano to the Nationals for Brad Wilkerson and Terrell Sledge – message to the Rangers faithful – “we aren’t going to be good for a long time…and we have no chance of signing Soriano next year. Please keep buying season tickets.”

The “re-invigoration” of the Red Sox continues – holy crapola! They just traded Edgar Renteria (one year after signing a four year deal) to the Braves for prospect Andy Marte. Speculation is that Marte is going to get moved (along with another prospect) to Tampa Bay for Aubrey Huff, or Julio Lugo…of if that certain New England reporter has his way…maybe BOTH. Question to Sox fans…how much are you missing Orlando Cabrera right now? Its only a matter of minutes before Red Sox Nation starts screaming for someone's head, because Hanley Ramirez was traded...it would have been his time.

Speaking of the Sox…Johnny Damon isn’t signed (yet? By the time this gets posted, he could very well sign…who knows?), Renteria gets traded, no one knows what’s happening with Ramirez, talk is that Nomar Garciaparra might come back, Mike Lowell is in…maybe, unless he gets moved before the season, Mark Loretta is in, Kevin Millar is out, depending on who you read – Roger Clemens going back to Boston is a possibility…but don’t worry Red Sox Nation – Varitek and Ortiz are not on the trade block and will remain Red Sox. Whether or not they will be happy is another thing all together…The best offence in baseball could be taking a major hit (no pun intended) The Red Sox are going from looking like a New England Clam Chowder to a Smorgasbord/Goulash (just throw anything in the pot).

Jayzus Chryse don’t tell me the Chickenhawk is going to get the Blue Jays into Wild Card contention. As much as I hate to admit it, he pulled off a good trade – getting Lyle Overbay for what amounted to a couple of minor leaguers. Like Simmons said, with the Chickenhawk its one step forward and one back. Watch out Boston…Have I told you that us Dodger fans are thrilled with Grady Little? Yup…he got an A-1 endorsement from soon to be former Red Sox 3B Bill Mueller … I don’t know about you, but I feel better.

Damn winter meetings…hey, why isn’t Hazel at the winter meetings? I’m sure she could get people to talk to her about what is REALLY going on…rather than just speculating and making stuff up. I know I’d spill the beans to Hazel.
