Upon Further Review
Hey peeps, and anyone else checking in - especially if you are checking in twice today. Anyone who has read this page before knows that no entry goes forth without a special "hey" going out to Ms. Hazel Mae if she's taken a few minutes to stop by.
O Fado Chora-se Bem - Amalia Rodrigues...if you trace your roots back to Portugal you should get to know Amalia and what she meant/still means to all Lusitanos - no matter how far/long removed from the old country. Amalia has soul.
On Sunday and Monday I was beating myself up over the decision to take the damned Detroit Lions in the Pro-Line pools - I ended up getting 15 out of 16, and was convinced that the temporary case of insanity had cost me thousands of dollars. Well, I was wrong - according to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (ya right...they are a legalized cartel!) there were 1163 lucky pool players who got 16 out of 16 right and share the $350+K - in other words about $360 each. I guess that lessens the pain...a little. I still think Hazel would have saved me from the awful decision.
Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye
STEVIE Y "TURINS" DOWN A CHANCE FOR GOLD
Steve Yzerman has asked Wayne Gretzky to remove him from Team Canada's roster for the 2006 Winter Olympics; citing his sub-par play to date as the main reason. Yzerman is being applauded across the country for his selflessness; a small minority have called in stating that his gesture shouldn't be treated as an act of heroism, but seen for what it really is - an aging veteran acknowledging that the game has passed him by.
While there is some credence to the latter - a guy like Jeremy Roenick makes me take the side of the former. Roenick was on the Score last night with Steve Kouleous talking about how the veterans on the U.S. team like Chelios, Amonte and himself (gee...all former Blackhawks) should be able to call their shot and once again represent Team USA - as they were the guys that brought the US to the pinnacle of international hockey. And that Hazel, Tina and gentlemen is why Roenick will never win a Cup - its all about him and his feelings (Team USA won a world championship a few years back in spite of him - not because of him). Thank God he is a member of Team USA.
Mim Ma Bo - Kizomba... a pretty cool song from Brazil with roots in Capoeira (Brazil Martial Art).
An interesting point on the Yzerman decision was brought up by Pierre Lebrun on the Score - Lebrun said that Team Canada's decision to let Yzerman and Mario Lemieux call their shot with respect to Turin goes back to Gretzky feeling slighted by Team Canada years back when he was treated as an afterthought...just another hockey player (being left on the bench during a shootout vs. Czechs)...I hadn't thought of that - makes sense. But let's face it, no one said Yzerman was a certainty for this year's team, Lemieux is a different story - as one the the 5 greatest players of all-time, he can call his shot - we have enough depth to cover Mario.
Blue - Eiffel65 "I'm blue da ba dee, da ba dye" - Yes the Dodgers hired Grady Little today...Red Sox Nation must be laughing their asses off right now.
While Gary Bettman and the NHL brass claims that everyone is digging the new NHL - some attendance figures being reported out of hockey hotbeds such as Florida, Tennessee, Carolina and yes, New York (Long Island) and New Jersey suggest that maybe paying fans aren't digging it as much as they did last month...crowd figures of 12,000 - 14,000 are being reported. Hockey fans in Winnipeg and Quebec City must be salivating right now.
The more I see the Chickenhawk on my television screen - the more he bugs me. He is talking about A.J. Burnett like he just landed Chris Carpenter or one of the games top pitchers - saying he is looking forward to going into Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park with Halladay and Burnett...we'll see Hawk. Toronto's offence is still a question mark. Apologies to Hazel for taking that shot at the Jays.
More Than A Woman - Aaliyah...I'll let you go with that - I'm not going to say a word.
I think that is about it for tonight...more to come tomorrow on Wednesday.
Have a great one peeps - and by the way, stop by the yahoo site for a poll that was posted...let's get some feedback. Thanks for stopping by. Hazel if you are checking in - I hope things are groovy in your world...Chiefs and Cowboys this weekend - you know what that means.
Song of the Day on Hazelspeeps - for the Chickenhawk, who couldn't resist breaking the bank for A.J. Burnett
Abracadabra - Steve Miller Band
Abra Abra - cadabra
I wanna reach out and grab ya.
That could very well apply to viewers of NESN huh?
Peesth out!
