The First Hazies of 2006

Hey Peeps, and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

So I'm still hating the NFL today - and my man Gary did nothing to improve my mood today...telling me and the rest of the peeps that he is a Redskins fan. I don't know if Gary is Canadian, or from New England area...a Redskins fan, thanks Gary...

Now Playing...Jesus of Suburbia - Green Day (lovin this song) I hope this played this for Crosby tonight at the ACC.

Today got away from me, too many family members and friends streaming in and out of the house - Happy New Years wishes all around. Family hit my stash of Kilkenny and Port...while my so called friends hit the Bushmills - but its all good.

HAZEL'S HEROES - THE HAZIES
While there were a number of very good performances this weekend...a lot of them came in relatively meaningless games, or against teams that weren't really playing for much. So rather than go through the list of performers this weekend, there are a few people that deserve mention.

RUNNING BACKS
Shaun Alexander of the Seahawks - yes AGAIN. Alexander won the NFL rushing title (an award he should have won last year) AND scored his 28th TD of the season. He had an unbelievable season for the Seahawks - should be the NFL MVP this year.

Now Playing... Oye Mi Canto - N.O.R.E (can you say the Economics of RAMADA?)

Honourable mention...
Tiki Barber of the Giants (dammit I hate saying that). Barber rushed for close to 1900 yards, finishing second to Alexander, and accounted for close to 2300 yards from scrimmage. He has come a long way from the guy you could count on to fumble 10+ times a year.

Larry Johnson of the Chiefs. This guy is going to win the NFL rushing title next year. What he did in the second half of the season was superhuman. Yes Hazel, I remember that he torched the Cowboys. Someone is going to be happy to get Priest Holmes next year, because there is no way Johnson can go back to the bench.

Now Playing...Suga Suga - Baby Bash

QUARTERBACKS
Carson Palmer of the Bengals (and Hazel Mae's Cowboys). 2005 was Palmer's breakout year, throwing for 3800+ yards in 15 games and 32 TDs - oh yeah, a 101.1 passer rating. The main reason Chad Johnson could talk so much this year.

Honourable mention
Tom Brady of the Patriots. Brady is right up there with LaDanian Tomlinson as probably the best player in the NFL. Brady threw for 4100+ yards, for a team that was ravaged by injuries. The man put the Patriots on his back and carried them until Bruschi and Seymour came back from injuries. A likeable guy too - I'd buy him a Kilkenny.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin of the Cardinas (and Hazel Mae's Cowboys incidentally). Was there a better tandem of receivers than these two? Both had 1400+ receiving yards with Kurt Warner and Josh McCown pitching the ball - not exactly Brady and Palmer. These guys did more with less.

Honourable mention
Chad Johnson of the Bengals - if for nothing else, entertainment value. I like Chad.

CALLING IT A CAREER?
Brett Favre of the Packers wrapped up a very trying 2005. If yesterday was it - then you gotta give him credit for a great career (even if he was Dallas' bit*h for a few years). The guy was undoubtedly one of the toughest players to play QB - and fun to watch. There were days he looked like a drunken white guy dancing back there in the pocket.

Now Playing... Rock Your Baby - George McRae (most of you probably wouldn't remember this song).

NHL
Chad Kilger scored TWO goals for the Leafs tonight. That equals his career output...seriously though, two goals has to get him some play here - it will likely be his only mention here.

NHL Players of the Week - Alexander Ovechkin with 4 goals and 3 assists in 4 games this week - and Manny Fernandez who led Minnesota to 3 wins with a GAA of 2.00.

Canadian Junior Team has had a good week - there were some questions about this team...they were thought to be grinders and workers and not as talented as some of the other teams there.
They have exceeded expectations and Canadians should be proud of these guys. Speaking of which, is it just me or does Cam Barker of Team Canada look a hell of a lot like Stewie Griffin on the Family Guy?

EUROPEAN SOCCER
Cristiano Ronaldo of the Portuguese national team, oh yeah and Manchester United, had two goals on Sunday - the second being a highlight reel goal with the triple cross-over, faking the defender out of his jockstrap and hitting a left-footed heater into the corner.

I'm wrapping this up for tonight...Tuesday's item will feature the flip-side of Hazel's Heroes...the "Not-So-Heroic". One guess as to the lead group of nominees - NFL Coaches...damn, a bunch of them got pink slips in a hurry. Clinton Portis and Steve Smith make the list for using TD celebrations that were not only weak...but COPIED.

Have a great one peeps...keep those messages coming on yahoo.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

Song of the Night on Hazelspeeps - for the winners of the Hazies

Number One - Nelly.

Peesth Out!
