NHL Saturday
Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.
A wild finish in Buffalo last night as the Sabres, who were frustrated by Henrik Lundqvist for 59 minutes and 52 seconds scored to send the game into overtime where winger Maxim Afinogenov scored the winner. Funny that Afinogenov scored after being a healthy scratch in game 4 - Max is the embodiment of his coach, Ruff at home (a champ) and "Lindy" on the road (a chump). Good win for the Sabres - they outplayed the Rangers and deserved the win.
Two games today - the Sharks and Wings face off in Detroit and the Tards are in New Jersey to take on the Devils.
The Sharks have played well enough to win all four games - but they have had a few brain cramps that have cost them dearly. Expect Ron Wilson to have his players focused on playing a good road game (being physical) and pull out a win.
The Tards and Devils series also has some controversy. First off, most hockey fans are wondering if Devils G Martin Brodeur was on crack after the last game - Brodeur, who was responsible for the loss actually called out Tards G Ray Emery...saying he was shaky and could be beaten. Ok Marty...nothing like ignoring your miserable showing. Secondly, is there something going in the Tards camp? Ray Emery missed the team flight to Jersey yesterday...likely nothing to it, but we'd like to think it would hurt the Tards team spirit/unity.
And for my pal Renee...Brandon Bochenski and Phil Kessel scored for Team USA the other day at the World Hockey Championships. That's that.
HAZEL'S THREE STARS
Canada's Shane Doan had the ultimate hat-trick yesterday, scoring on the power play, while short-handed, and at full strength to lead Canada to a 6-3 win over Belarus at the IIHF World Hockey Championships. If you haven't read Ottawa Tilt's entry yesterday - Doan has been drawn into a nonsensical debate on whether or not he should be captaining Team Canada. It is not even worth going into - but kudos to Doan for rising above the nonsense.
Boston Red Sox P Tim Wakefield pitched a great game last night at the Metrodome, despite feeling sick this week. Wakefield pitched seven scoreless innings - limiting the Twins to three hits and three walks.
Texas Rangers 3B Hank Blalock had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI to lead the Rangers to a 7-1 spanking of the Blue Jays...ya, Hazel might not be down with this one, but we like seeing the Jays take it on the chin.
SATURDAY THREE PLAY
A good day yesterday - with a couple of come from behind victories - a 3-0 day to boost the balance sheet up to + $325 for the week. We'll go with a couple of game this afternoon and check back in later for the night action. Its going to be a good day.
Chicago over Washington - we like Rich Hill today over John Patterson; the Cubs are on a bit of a roll these days which means trouble for the Nats. Lay $100 on the Cubs - $230.
NY Yankees over Seattle - the Yankees lost a slugfest last night - expect them to take their frustrations out on Jeff Weaver...Chien-Ming Wang goes for the pinstripes. Lay $100 on the Yankees - $290.
San Jose over Detroit - the Sharks should have swept the Red Wings, they have outplayed Detroit in the series. We'll go with them this afternoon at The Joe - they aren't intimidated by the Wings. Lay $75 on the Sharks + $135.
That's about it for this morning gang - have a great one peeps!
