So "Luongo" Roberto
Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special Friday morning "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.
The Anaheim Ducks beat Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 on a goal by Scott Niedermeyer 4:30 into the second overtime to take the series in five games. It will be interesting to see how people look back on this series - I'm sure there will be people in Vancouver who will point to the number of overtime games as an indication of how close the series was and how it could have gone either way; but the truth of the matter is that Vancouver was overmatched. Without Roberto Luongo, the Canucks would have been gone in four straight and it would have been ugly - they were completely outplayed in every facet of the game except for goaltending.
A great run for Vancouver - but GM Dave Nonis and Head Coach Alain Vigneault just found out what countless trapping teams before them have had to learn in the playoffs...at some point, your team has to be able to score in order to win the game. The Canucks had a great regular season - but they were far and away one of the most boring teams to watch. Alain Vigneault's game plan was built around his best player - Luongo - which works in the regular season, where there are points for getting into overtime and shootouts to decide games...the playoffs are a different matter, teams are going to fire 40, 50, 60 even 70 shots over two, three or four overtime periods. Oh well, good run for Vancouver - better run for Luongo who may have become the people's choice for best goaltender in the NHL.
HAZEL'S THREE STARS
Anaheim Ducks D Scott Niedermeyer scored the overtime winner against Vancouver last night to move his team into the Conference Finals.
Boston Red Sox LF Manny Ramirez hits two home runs and drives in three runs to lead Boston all the way from a 5-0 first inning deficit. Daisuke Matsuzaka just found out what the best thing about being a Red Sox pitcher is - you are never out of any game.
Kansas City Royals P Gil Meche limited the Los Angeles Angels to two runs on two hits and a walk over seven innings to lead the Royals to a 5-2 win. The $55 million man seems to be earning his keep early on - something Blue Jays fans can't say about "the enigma" (A.J. Burnett).
We'll get Tilt to post today's suggest three play later this morning - I really have to book.
