Ugh

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

We're going to make it short and not so sweet today for a couple of reasons: first, yesterday's results sucked all around - from the NHL to UEFA Cup it was all terrible; second, we are dying here today with a "man cold" to end all man colds.

The Maple Leafs took it on the chin last night at Scotiabank place, dropping a 5-1 decision to the SenaTards. The Leafs are now tied for eighth with the Hurricanes and the Rangers, both of whom have easier schedules down the stretch. Leafs coach Paul Maurice stood front and center offering no excuses for yesterday's loss - acknowledging that the Tards were a step ahead of the Leafs all night. No cliches from Maurice either - I like that.

As mentioned, the Leafs are tied with the Rangers and the Canes - an ugly incident last night on Long Island, where Islanders LW Chris Simon swung his stick at a Rangers player after being checked into the boards (from behind). Simon is sure to be suspended for at least 10 games, if not the rest of the year - for his part, the Rangers player said he was "just finishing his check". Its funny how these guys who "finish their checks" always seem to finish them by hitting a guy who has his back to him. No excuses for Simon though...


HAZEL'S THREE STARS
Vancouver Canucks C Brendan Morrison had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over the Coyotes last night - ya, we are giving him credit because of our Three Play pick yesterday.

Atlanta Thrashers RW Jon Sim had two goals in a 6-2 pounding of the Montreal Canadiens - again, good for our Three Play pick.

Nashville Predators C Jason Arnott had two goals and an assist in a 6-3 win over the Calgary Flames.


FRIDAY THREE PLAY
We go into the weekend at + $150 on the balance sheet.

Anaheim over Edmonton - the Oilers are battered and beaten, the Ducks are still playing for positioning. Lay $100 on the Ducks - $270.

Detroit over LA Kings - another case of a team playing out the string against a team playing for positioning. Lay $50 on the Wings - $330.

If you are so inclined, Carolina looks good over Washington tonight - but no self-respecting member of Leaf Nation could suggest that play tonight.
