Hole cards and position

If you take a deck of cards and consider the hole cards that are dealt out in Hold'em poker, you can argue that there are very few premium hands. To me the only starting hand that can be considered premium hands are: AA, KK, QQ, AK, and AQ (if the latter two are suited, all the better). These are hands that regardless of position - you SHOULD be raising with. They are what they are...the best starting hands in poker. A majority of time when you play you will get dealt middle hands or just simply horrible hands and at this point, what should dictate your play isn't the quality of your starting hand but your position at the table and the type of action ahead of you. Playing suited connectors or low cards can work out, but you should avoid entering into big pots with them. As one poker pro put it...big hands = big pots, small hands = small pots.

Small hole cards are also useful in multi-way (3 or more players) hands. In these situations, you have to assume that the other players have better hands then you. However, avoid betting out with just a pair. Its dangerous and ultimately cost you a lot of chips(money).
