Leafs Win The Battle & The War

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

We'll start with the most important story this morning - the Maple Leafs beat the Devils yesterday by a score of 2-1 to move into a tie with Carolina and the stinkin' Habs for eighth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Kyle Wellwood and Nik Antropov scored for the good guys, with Captain Mats Sundin assisting on both goals. Andrew Raycroft was solid last night, making a some big saves in the third period to preserve the lead. Toronto gets the all important two points - but they won another battle last night, one that was just as important to Leafs Nation.

Cam Janssen suited up for the Devils last night and was greeted with a loud chorus of boos from those in attendance at the ACC. Janssen started off the game with pounding Leafs C Yanic Perreault into the boards, bringing on more boos from the fans. Janssen's next shift (he had 1:04 minutes of ice time last night) saw him drop the gloves with Leafs enforcer Wade Belak. Belak exacted the justice Leafs Nation was looking for, pounding Janssen in a fight that lasted well over a minute. During the first minute of the fight, the punch-o-meter had Belak throwing 17 punches to Janssens 3; Belak picks up the unanimous decision for landing a number of shots on the Devils meathead. While Belak didn't make Janssen pay the price for the hit on Kaberle...we'll take the decision for now and file the hit away for a possible playoff matchup.

The Bruins did Toronto no favours last night - dropping a decision to their arch-rival Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre last night. We had pronounced the Bruins dead a few weeks back and their performances over the last two games confirm what we have known all along - they are not (and never really were) good enough to be a playoff team. Thanks for nothing Boston...Hazel, look at the bright side, two more weeks of this crap and you get to wrap up your first season on The Buzz and move on to Red Sox Rewind.

HAZEL'S THREE STARS
Toronto Maple Leafs Captain Mats Sundin set up both goals in Toronto's win last night. The Leafs will be looking to the big guy to lead the push for the playoffs.

Columbus Blue Jackets LW Frederik Modin had two goals to lead the Jackets to a 5-2 victory over the Blackhawks last night - good for our Three Play. Oh yeah, in case you didn't know, Modin is a former Maple Leaf.

Tampa Bay Lightning D Filip Kuba scored the overtime winner in a 4-3 win over the Islanders - good for the Three Play and good for the Maple Leafs.

WEDNESDAY THREE PLAY
We started out the week with a 3-0 night for a total of + $250. We'll pick three more tonight.

Buffalo over Washington - the Sabres have been struggling lately, but they aren't likely to take the Caps lightly...not after the Caps have spanked the Leafs and Lightning lately. Lay $100 on the Sabres - $330.

San Jose over Chicago - the Hawks lost last night in Columbus and are just playing out the string now - the Sharks are gearing up for the playoffs and need the points for positioning. Lay $100 on the Sharks - $245.

Colorado over Edmonton - the Avs are four points out of a playoff spot and get a creampuff tonight against an Oilers team that is missing eight regulars. Lay $100 on the Avs - $220.

That's about it for this morning gang - have a great one peeps!

HAZEL'S WEDNESDAY HOROSCOPE
Don't let money matters cause you emotional worry. Buckle down and set a budget. An opportunity to start something new or learn a new skill that will help your career is apparent. 3 stars
