Congratulations Team Canada

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Wild Card Saturday Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

The Canadian Junior hockey team won the World Junior Hockey Championship - their third in a row, all against the Russians. The team went into this championship with questions about their offence - their defensive game wasn't in question - but they did enough to win the big prize. Team Canada seemed to be crusing up 4-0 in the second period, but gave up two quick goals near the end of the second period before regrouping at the intermission to come out strong in the third and frustrate the Russians. Canada had not won a World Junior Championship held in Europe in ten years. Congratulations boys...you did us proud.

Wild Card Saturday in the NFL today, with one game sure to catch Hazel's attention - sadly, we aren't talking about the Cowboys/Seahawks game. My picks for today:

Kansas City +7 over INDIANAPOLIS - Yes I know the Colts haven't lost at home all year; yes I know that Peyton Manning is a different QB under a dome; yes I know the Chiefs D isn't one of the league's best. However, I think Herm Edwards put it best - "You play to win the game." Fact for our readers - the Colts have given up 100+ rushing yards in every game this year; Larry Johnson had eleven 100+ yard rushing games for the Chiefs. The game plan is simple, run Larry Johnson down the Colts' throats and control the ball. KC's corners are good enough to contain the Colts' passing game and limit the big plays. I like the Chiefs to win the game outright - by the way, welcome to Thoughts of Hazel Mae...have you heard she's a big time NFL fan?

Dallas +3 over SEATTLE - I'm not just picking the Cowboys because I'm a fan, I'm not picking them because I'm counting on some Hazel Karma - I'm taking the Cowboys today because Seattle's defense is terrible (even worse than Dallas' D has been in recent weeks) - the opposition is scoring TDs over 60% of the time once they hit the red zone. Seattle has three starters in their secondary out for today's game - that doesn't bode well when you go up against T.O. and Terry Glenn. Romo has been human over the last few weeks - but Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck hasn't been a world-beater either. Dallas wins this one outright and everybody here celebrates a super Saturday.

For those of you who haven't heard - that Chunky Soup lovin' mama's boy's mama has her own blog. Donovan McNabb's mother wrote in her blog that it would be bittersweet if the Eagles won the Super Bowl - no freakin' chance. Don't you think the players would want to bitch slap both Donovan and his mother?

HAZEL'S THREE STARS

Team Canada G Carey Price was named the MVP or the World Junior Hockey Championship - a great performance from a kid who had many so-called experts questioning his mental toughness and commitment to hockey. My man Johnny will be happy - Price is property of the Montreal Canadiens'.

Nashville Predators' RW Scott Hartnell had two goals and an assist in an 8-3 pasting of the Blackhawks last night in Chicago - the lone bright spot in our Three Play yesterday.

Phoenix Coyotes C Yanic Perreault scored the winning goal in overtime and added an assist to lead the Coyotes to a big come from behind victory over the high powered Atlanta Thrashers - it killed our Three Play, but Perreault is a former Maple Leaf so Hazel would be ok with this pick.

SATURDAY THREE PLAY

Thanks to the Sabres and the Thrashers both blowing leads last night, our picks yesterday turned out to be brutal - finishing the night - $450. We have pretty much blown the bankroll this week (- $820 for the week) so we'll try to minimize the damage and make some of it back.

Kansas +7 over Indianapolis - lay $75 on the Chiefs.

We'll be back later this afternoon with more.

Following my pal Renee's lead - I have come up with my predictions for 2007 (to be posted in the next few days). My first prediction for January 2007

The Dallas Cowboys pull off three surprising road victories and make it to the Super Bowl to face the Patriots (and an armless Tom Brady – right Renee?). After beating the Bears in the NFC Championship, QB Tony Romo is seen celebrating with Lindsay Lohan. When asked about his relationship with Carrie Underwood, Romo smiles and says “To get to the Super Bowl, you have to get down and dirty. Let’s go Lindsay.”

Like I said, more to come in the next few days... Have a great one peeps - enjoy your NFL Saturday.

HAZEL'S SATURDAY HORSCOPE

Don't be lazy when you could be working toward something that could potentially make your life better. You can learn a skill, pick up information, travel for knowledge or check out business opportunities. Sulking about something you can't change will be a waste of time. 5 stars

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world - good luck to you and the Chiefs today...hope you will be checking in on the Cowboys in the night game and sending the Boys' some good karma.

Song of the Day on Hazelspeeps - for the Cowboys
