Milestone Night In The NHL

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

A quick recap of yesterday in the NHL to start your morning off - two significants events last night.

The Detroit Red Wings officially retired former Captain Steve Yzerman's number 19 last night at the Joe. Yzerman was the heart and soul of the Red Wings teams of the 80's, 90's, and 2000's - turning one of the NHL's worst teams in the 80's into three time Stanley Cup Champions; quite an accomplishment for a guy that made it through the Ottawa Minor Hockey League system. Leave it to the Ottawa media to be jackasses - while talking about Yzerman's accomplishments, they can't stop themselves from babbling on about how Yzerman "almost wound up being a SenaTard" - they won't reveal their sources, but say that the Tards were set to acquire Yzerman a few years back...this all goes to them whining about how he could have brought these losers a Stanley Cup - meh.

The Edmonton Oilers win last night over Florida was the franchise's 1000th - most of the wins were racked up in the 80's and early nineties with teams lead by the likes of Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Coffey, and Fuhr - not likely to see another dynasty like that one any time in the near future. Nice win for the folks up in Edmonton though.

HAZEL'S THREE STARS
Minnesota Wild's C Pierre-Marc Bouchard had two goals and two assists in a 5-1 thrashing of Atlanta last night; when you outscore the likes of Hossa and Kovalchuk, you get play here.

Pittsburgh Penguins' C Sidney Crosby had 2 goals and an assist in a 3-0 shutout win over the Carolina Hurricanes last night; another average night for Sid the Kid, but good enough to get mention here this morning.

Chicago Blackhawks' G Nikolai Khabibulin made 38 saves last night, keeping the Hawks in the game until a four goal third period, in a 4-1 victory over St. Louis. He is starting to look like the guy the Hawks thought they were signing to a big money contract a while back.

WEDNESDAY THREE PLAY
Tough night last night, going 2-1 and only netting $15 bucks - so the total for the week stands at - $170. We'll keep it simple tonight in hopes of getting the total down and moving towards the black.

Buffalo over Ottawa - the Tards squeaked out a couple of wins against struggling teams last week (killing us in the Three Play) - but they won't be as lucky against a well rested Sabres team tonight at "The Bank". Lay $100 on the Sabres - $135.

Dallas over Vancouver - the Canucks killed us last night with the win in Calgary, but I'm thinking that they won't be able to recover from last night's game to get it done against a Dallas team that has been sitting in Vancouver waiting - the ambush game looks good tonight. Lay $100 on the Stars at even money.

We might be back later to suggest a play on the Notre Dame/LSU game tonight...maybe.

That's it for this morning - have a great one peeps.

HAZEL'S WEDNESDAY HOROSCOPE
Refrain from pushing or asking for too much. Someone will begrudge your forwardness and probably put you in your place. Refuse to let anyone goad you into an argument. Taking a conservative approach will work best for you. 2 stars

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

Song of the Day on Hazelspeeps - in keeping with the tribute to The Clash's frontman Joe Strummer, from the London Calling album.

Revolution Rock - The Clash
