The Hazies Part II - The Champs & Chumps

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

Following up on Monday's NHL Hall of Fame Hazies, tonight we look at the Champs and Chumps from the past week in the world of sports.

HAZEL'S HEROES - THE CHAMPS

NFL

There were a number of pretty damn good performances in the NFL this past week - its no secret that Hazel is a big time NFL fan, we don't know if she has the NFL Network...but we think she's got an eye on most of the games, so we think she'd be cool with this week's winners.

San Francisco 49er's RB Frank Gore was in the midst of an outstanding game against Detroit on Sunday before leaving the game in the second half with a concussion. Through two plus quarters, Gore had 159 yards on 22 carries - including a 61 yard TD run. Little known fact, Hazel used to be a 49ers fan - we think it was because of Joe Montana (insert grrrr here).

Green Packers' QB Brett Favre had a great day under the dome in Minnesota on Sunday. I've given it to Favre in the past - but you have to tip your hat to him. Favre was 24 for 42, for 347 yards and 2 TDs. I still think he's done, but you have to hand it to him, he came up big this past weekend.

Seattle Seahawks' RB Maurice Morris filled in admirably for Shaun Alexander in a big win over the St. Louis Rams. Morris ran for 124 yards on 21 carries - he didn't score any TDs, but he did set the table for Seneca Wallace.

Dallas Cowboys' QB Tony Romo had another impressive game, albeit against the hapless Arizona Cardinals. Romo was 20 for 29, for 308 yards and two TDs in leading Dallas to a 27-10 win. Romo came to Dallas a few years ago as the number four QB on the depth chart - Romo has been a good team man as he worked his way up to be "the guy". Romo has overcome a lot to get to where he is; Romo is a scrapper and a gamer - remind you of anyone? Ya, I'm sure Hazel would be down with Romo making the list.

Chicago Bears' WR Muhsin Muhammed caught 7 passes for 123 yards and a TD to lead the Bears to a 38-20 victory over the stinking Giants.

NHL

Toronto Maple Leafs' coach Paul Maurice has been outstanding this year. Maurice came into the job faced with taking over a team that was projected by many to be a bubble team - if they were lucky enough to make the playoffs; he made a few major roster moves and has changed the style of play, the look and the attitude of the Leafs. Maurice has been a difference maker this year. Until Hazel publicly says she isn't part of Leaf Nation - and has gone to the dark side known as the Bruins - we know she'd be down with this one.

Anaheim Ducks GM Brian Burke is the hockey god - if a GM could win the MVP, it would be Burke without a doubt. If you have read this page before, you know I think he is by far the league's best GM and one of the great hockey minds. Witness what he did this week: he managed to get Philadelphia to bite and trade for semi-tough guy Todd Fedoruk, a guy Burke didn't want; and he managed to unload underachiever Stanislav Chistov to the Bruins for a draft pick, and he had the Bruins say "thank you very much". Before all you Bruins' fans get all excited, if Brian Burke doesn't want a guy...that should tell you something. Ok, Hazel wouldn't be down with that last crack - but the girl knows her hockey, so she'd be cool with handing out the hardware to Brian Burke.

HAZEL'S ZEROS - THE CHUMPS

Atlanta Falcons QB Ron Mexico had another memorable game on Sunday against a bad Cleveland Browns' team. Our boy threw two INTs and fumbled once as the Falcons fell on Sunday - great QB my ass...this guy will never win - he will only mess up my pool picks every week.

New York Giants QB Eli Manning was awful on Sunday night against the Bears - throwing for 121 yards and 2 INTs; he also fumbled three times, losing one of them. To make matters worse - he is a member of Hazel Mae's Cowboys in the Yahoo pool. Thanks for nothing Eli.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a bunch of chumps too - watching them celebrate that victory on Sunday was nothing short of pathetic. These clowns were dancing on the sidelines like they were back - dudes, I got news for you, you are 3-6 - your season is over.

NHL

See post above about who Brian Burke fleeced this week - Paul Holmgren and Peter Chiarelli, you have both been punk'd by the man in Anaheim.

Ok, this won't be popular with many of you, but here it goes; Boston Bruins' fans you guys really suck the big one. Its one thing to boo a former Bruins' player - Andrew Raycroft took it all in stride...but to boo him when he left the ice with an injury? Congratulations Boston - you have joined the ranks of Philadelphia Eagles' fans. That was weak...

The management teams of the SenaTards, the Vancouver Canucks and every other load mouthed GM from a so-called small market that are now crying about the salary cap and the Collective Bargaining Agreement that allows players to file for Free Agency after seven years - you whined about it for years, you got what you wanted, and know you are whining because it isn't working for you - bet you clowns love your revenue sharing huh?

That's about it for tonight...we'll do some of Weird & Whacked stuff tomorrow.

Time for pool updates from the yahoo site.

Week 10 in the NFL provided for some surprises in the Hazel Mae Football Pool. Our Commish lost his second game of the season - while he vows his boys will be back, I'm thinking he drafted the Indianapolis Colts of fantasy football. Our resident Steinbrenner Hubie ended his losing streak by beating my Hazel Mae's Cowboys; and our girl Tina is firmly entrenched in second place.

8-2 Fighting Bobcats - owned by Commish Drisc who is enjoying life as a new father, he has a reason to slip up a little.

7-3 Tina's Team - owned by Tina who is proving to be a shrewd manager - thank God she isn't in the hockey pool.

4-6 Ageswimmer - owned by Bushey, who has yet to reach out to the peeps.

4-6 Hazel Mae's Cowboys - owned by El Presidente, who watched his team crap the bed as he answered email this weekend.

4-6 Jack O'Lantern - owned by Hubie who checked in to say he likes watching Hazel on Extra Point...maybe she was his inspiration this past week.

3-7 Ithaca Commons - owned by our boy Kevin who is still studying hard.

Hazel Mae's Cowboys are guaranteeing a win this week!

The Hazel Hockey League saw no change this week - everyone stayed pretty much the same. Standings for the week ending November 14th.

53.0 - Weekend Warriors - owned by bakerboy Chris, who reached out this week to be the voice of reason on the hazelspeeps board.

51.0 - Double DD Bandits - owned by Hubie, who has initiated a flurry of activity on the waiver wire - go figure.

44.0 - Skating Bobcats - owned by Drisc, who is always the voice of reason on the board.

43.0 - Hazel's Maeple Leafs - owned by El Presidente who is scouring the free agent list.

36.0 - Hanson Brothers - owned by Sparky, who came back to the board with a splash.

25.0 - Ice Bitches - owned by Renee who made a splash of her own this week - but that's a group issue, not to be aired publicly.

That's about it for tonight gang - have a great one peeps!

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

Song of the Night on Hazelspeeps - I'm in a mood tonight.

Breathe - Telepopmusik

Peesth Out...Buh Bye!
