The Hazies - NHL Style

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

For those of you who haven't been here before, Monday night entries take a look back at the week or so that was in the world of sports, highlighting some of the more notable performances. To those who have risen above the rest, we award them with an honourary "Hazie" - the lucky few have the title of "Hazel's Hero" bestowed upon them. While Hazel hasn't officially approved this week's winners, we're sure that Hazel would give her trademark smile and thumbs up because tonight's Hazies is all abou the NHL, and you know that Hazel is a big time hockey fan.

The NHL held this year's Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Toronto - so Hazies all around to the newest members of the Hall.

Patrick Roy, who hold the NHL record for wins by a goalie, was one of two former players inducted. Roy lead Montreal to two Stanley Cups (one of which should have been Toronto's cup - thanks for nothing Gretzky...you jerk) and backstopped the Colorado Avalanche to two more. My favourite memory of Roy was his last game with the Canadiens when he gave Montreal coach Mario Tremblay the throat slash.

Dick Duff, who played for both the Maple Leafs and Canadiens at the height of their rivalry, joined Roy as the other former player inducted. From 1962 to 1969 Duff won six Stanley Cups (two with Toronto and four with Montreal); he was also named to seven All-Star teams during his 17 year career.

Harley Hotchkiss was inducted in the Builders category. Hotchkiss is a part owner of the Calgary Flames and was instrumental in purchasing and bringing the Flames to Calgary from Atlanta.

Herb Brooks - "Do you believe in miracles?" Enough said...every hockey fan knows Herb Brooks' crowning moment.

We'll do the regular edition of the Hazies tomorrow - the Champs and Chumps. Have a great one peeps!

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

Song of the Night on Hazelspeeps - just because

I'd just like to say
the NE Patriots WILL NOT make the playoffs this year
kids.
Its ironic that 2 of Bob Krafts
teams the NE Revolution
are 0-3 in MLS Cup finals and his NE Patriots both choked in big must win games Sunday.
Pat-hetic!
