October Baseball

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

Given that things were pretty much settled going into the last week of the season - not much to talk about in terms of the Hazies for MLB. So, tonight we break down the playoffs in MLB - we don't know if Hazel will ok these picks...but we hope she would give the thumbs up.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Los Angeles Dodgers (Red Sox West) vs New York Mets

As a Dodger fan, I was happy to see we avoided a date with Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals. While the Cardinals were downright awful down the stretch - they have always had the Dodgers' number, going back to that Ozzie Smith HR off of Tom Niedenfuer in 1985. Let's face it, if Renee, some of the peeps, Hazel and I put on Cardinals jerseys - WE could beat the Dodgers. Of course Hurricane Hazel would be pitching, with yours truly behind the plate...LOTS of mound meetings to discuss strategy.

Ok, seriously - while the Mets definitely have an advantage in terms of hitting, they are going to miss Pedro in this series. The Mets will start Hernandez, Glavine, Trachsel and Maine - not exactly a staff that strikes fear into the heart of opposing teams; L.A. will counter with Derek Lowe, Brad Penny and Greg Maddux - three guys who have pitched in big games. The Dodgers have found a way to get it done this year, and I think they will continue it. Look for Furcal to have a big series and Kent and Garciaparra to come up with some big hits for L.A.

I'm taking the Dodgers in five games.

San Diego Padres (Red Sox West II) vs St. Louis Cardinals

The Padres catch St. Louis in a funk - the Cardinals limped into the post-season and there is nothing to suggest they are going to be able to break out anytime soon. Look for the Padres to neutralize Albert Pujols by walking him. San Diego comes into this series with their starting pitchers on fire, while everyone on the Cardinals staff is getting knocked around. The Padres offence is terrible - but they have enough to get it done against a St. Louis staff that is struggling.

San Diego in four games.

Oakland Athletics vs Minnesota Twins

The Twins are great at home, they were 54-27 this year - but remember, Francisco Liriano was there for a good part of it. This one is going to come down to starting pitching, while Johan Santana is probably the best pitcher in the American League, he is only going to get two starts - the other spots in the rotation will be filled by Bonser, Radke and Silva; doesn't inspire a lot of confidence does it? I'll take Oakland's rotation with Zito, Harden, Haren and Loaiza. Oakland has done what they always do - head into the post season playing great baseball - this time around they get to avoid the Yankees. Oakland will get some clutch hits in this series.

Oakland in five games.

Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees

Detroit in five. Why? Because Hazel hates the Yankees, and I'm with her on this one. (I'm going with Detroit on the basis of their pitching - they'll get it done)

If all else fails...remember - Hazel Karma.

The Hazelspeeps Fantasy Baseball Pool wrapped up - as expected, Sparky's Bronx Zoo won the league this year. El Presidente's Hazel Mae's Hackers edged out Renee's Naughty Girls for second place. The standing didn't change from last week - special mention goes out to Tina who had never played Fantasy Baseball and put up a good show.

That's about it for tonight gang...I have to watch that Chunk Soup lovin' mama's boy hold my fate in two suicide pools tonight. Philadelphia has looked awful tonight and are in danger of losing to the lowly Packers. Eagles up 10-9 right now...but I don't have a good feeling about this one. Dallas is going to beat up on these losers on Sunday! Have a great one peeps!

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world - enjoy the post season, remember GO DODGERS. Leafs open up against the SenaTards on Wednesday night...GO LEAFS!

Song of the Night on Hazelspeeps - for my pal...

She Talks To Angels - Black Crowes

Peesth Out...Buh Bye!
