Torino Here We Come

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Ms. Hazel Mae.

So the NHL takes a break to head off to Turin for the 2006 Olympic Hockey Tournament - and for Leaf Nation, it couldn't come soon enough. Toronto heads into this break with two BAD losses to the Rangers - I was out this weekend, so my attention was split between the television screen and my friends (and that is a great story...but not one that gets play in a sports blog), Toronto's call ups on D looked bad. The difference between an NHL and AHL defenceman was clearly illustrated this weekend - Toronto needs the two weeks to heal up and try to ice an A lineup. Good news out of Toronto - Tomas Kaberle signs a five year extension.

The silver lining was that the Bruins lost and the Habs lost in a shootout (though they are 1 point up on Toronto). Leafs still make the playoffs this year...they have to. Hazel will come through for the Leafs - she's still part of Leaf Nation (we hope).

Wayne Gretzky is off to Turin today with Janet in tow - questions abound about the timing of the calls from Gretzky to Tocchet...did it happen weeks ago as originally reported...or after the story broke. Stay tuned
