William "Boots" Jim In The "Balsilles"
Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.
It looks like Nashville Predators current owner Craig Leopold has a deal to sell the team to William "Boots" Del Biaggio - thus ending Jim Balsille's dream to bring an NHL franchise to Hamilton. We won't say we told you so - but didn't we maintain from day one that the NHL would not allow an American team to be relocated in a Canadian city?
The Canadian media's reporting of the transaction - from print, to radio, to television - has consistently referred to Balisille's original offer being much more than Del Biaggio's...but that isn't the point now is it? The point is that the NHL believes the future of the game lies with generating interest and revenue in non-traditional American markets...ignoring the fact that 35% of the league's revenues is generated by six Canadian teams.
We won't waste our breath.
In Other News
Josh Being Josh - five days after ripping his teammates and Jays management...Josh Towers puts in another typical Towers' like performance... 5.1 IP and 4 ER. While Towers wasn't being blamed for yesterday's loss...we have to wonder how much his comments from last week impacted his team yesterday. Since when did Gregg Zaun become the unofficial spokesman for the Blue Jays...with the kind of season he is having, he should just shut his pie-hole and stop calling people out or trying to put his finger on why they aren't winning.
Here's a hint Zauner - when a team counts on a guy like you to be their number one catcher and inspirational leader...they in trouble.
Take heart Blue Jays fans - word it AJ Burnett is feeling sharp and ready to roll...haha, yeah right.
Its Not About The Money...Really - If you are Michael Strahan...are you not feeling like a colossal jackass right now? Your personal life is a mess and in the public eye, and you compound things by trying to hold the team hostage while you are "mulling retirement". Mike...get a clue man.
Brazilians Like To Party - Who Knew? - Shocker...Brazilian soccer team was partying at 2006 World Cup...drinking, carousing, breaking curfew - no wonder they looked so damn lethargic. Oh yeah, in case you were wondering - the consensus IS that Ronaldo is indeed FAT.
WEDNESDAY'S THREE STARS
Red Sox West 3B Nomar Garciaparra had one hit last night, but he made it count - his tie-breaking two-run homer highlighted a four run 8th inning - leading the Dodgers to a 6-4 win over the asterisk and the Giants.
New York Yankees C Jorge Posada hits two home runs and drives in three in New York's 8-1 win over the White Sox.
Tampa Bay Devils Rays LF Carl Crawford has three hits, including a home run, and two runs batted in to lead the Rays to a 6-2 win over Josh Towers and the Blue Jays.
THURSDAY THREE PLAY
A rough rough rough week - our total stands at an ugly - $315 for the week. For those not faint of heart...today's suggestions
San Diego over Arizona - Jake Peavy goes today as the Padres try to salvage one game in this series...they won't get swept at home. Lay $100 on the Padres - $220.
Texas and Cleveland over 9.5 - Kason Gabbard makes his first start for Texas...he's due to get hit around a bit; Jake Westbrook goes for Cleveland...he always gets hit around. Lay $100 on the over - $115.
Boston over Baltimore - we like the Sox to win the series. Ya we know its Wakefield vs Guthrie (edge to Baltimore) but we can't see the O's winning a series at Fenway. Lay $100 on the Sox - $150.
We may be back mid-afternoon with a few more suggestions...maybe.
That's it for this morning gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.
Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.
We're out!
