I Give Up

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

Yesterday went from bad to worse to downright ugly at the FIFA Under-20 Championships. We won't bore you with a recap of yesterday's action - Gambia beat Portugal by a count of 2-1 and the German referee was the Man of the Match as he had as much to do with the outcome as anyone. We're not going to get into it - it was a poorly officiated match, period.

The news got worse for Portugal, as their captain Bruno Gama left the game mid-way through the second half and was last seen being taken out of Olympic Stadium on a stretcher and headed for the hospital. Officials from the Portuguese Football Federation have yet to comment on the extent of the injury - it is safe to say that the task of winning this tournament without Gama would be Herculean to say the least.

We'll start with Chile on Thursday and go from there.

Canada lost yesterday to finish the tournament at 0-3 - the impression Canada left will not soon be forgotten, as they became the first team in the history of the Under-20 Championship to fail to score a single goal while hosting the tournament. While the commentators tried to take comfort in "Canada's effort" - it is a complete and utter embarrassment.

The unofficial half-way point of the MLB season - time to take stock of your team.

SUNDAY'S THREE STARS
Red Sox West C Russell Martin had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three to lead the Dodgers to a 9-3 win over the Marlins...finally!

Detroit Tigers DH Gary Sheffield had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two to lead the Tigers to a 6-5 win over the Red Sox...sorry Red Sox Nation.

Toronto Blue Jays P Josh Towers , (yes, THAT Josh Towers) had a perfect game going into the sixth yesterday against the Indians in a 1-0 win. Towers finished the day having pitched eight innings and giving up three hits while striking out four. We can't believe it either...but you have to give him his due.

That's it for today gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

I'm Out.
