Eyes On Toronto Tonight

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

Portugal and Mexico take to the pitch tonight at BMO Field in Toronto is a pivotal Group C game - with the winner guaranteeing themselves a spot in the Round of 16, but more importantly - pretty much locking up first place in the group. As we mentioned on Tuesday, Portugal can't afford to tie Mexico today, as the tie breaker will be based on goal differential - Mexico leads by one right now and are a good bet to spank New Zealand on Sunday. Portugal will look to Pele to control the midfield like he did against New Zealand, and Fabio Coentrao to create off the wing. Of course, In Bruno We Trust. The team goes into tonight's game with the mentality that it is a must win - we'll hope for the best.

We'll be back tonight to discuss the NHL - you have to know we have a big problem with JFJ today...signing Toskala to a 2 year/$8M extension before having played one game is insane. Tonight's we'll take a look at the NHL's Three Stooges of the Northeast - I speak of Bob Gainey (Larry), John Ferguson Junior (Moe) and Peter Chiarelli (Curly). The fact that these three have jobs in the NHL should serve as hope and inspiration for anyone hoping to be a GM in the NHL - if these guys can do it, any of us can and probably be more successful.

WEDNESDAY'S THREE STARS
Seattle Mariners P Jarrod Washburn pitches eight solid innings against the Royals, shutting them out on five hits and a walk while striking out five, in the Mariners 4-0 win. What did we tell you yesterday?

San Diego Padres P Chris Young didn't get the win yesterday, but he was dominant over seven innings yesterday, giving up five hits and striking out nine Florida Marlins. Didn't we tell you he'd pitch well?

Philadelphia P Cole Hamels, pitching for his spot in the starting rotation of the Maeple Leafs, responded to his manager's challenge yesterday, pitching seven strong innings against the Astros. Hamels gave up one run on eight hits and struck out eight. Didn't we tell you he'd get back to early season form?

For the record, we aren't normally "We told you so" kind of people.

THURSDAY'S THREE PLAY

If you haven't figured it out, yesterday's stars were all about yesterday's "six-play" - a very impressive 6-0 on the day yesterday...we've never had a day like that here...hope you profited from them. The balance sheet is $600 in the black so let's continue the roll.

San Diego over Florida - Peavy is overpowering at home, the Marlins are having enough trouble hitting the ball these days without facing this guy. Lay $100 on the Padres - $250.

Milwaukee over Pittsburgh - we don't like suggesting plays against Tom Gorzelanny, but given that its Ben Sheets going today AND the Pirates won yesterday - we feel comfortable backing Milwaukee. Lay $100 on the Brewers - $125.

Minnesota over New York - upset special today...Igawa has been terrible so we're taking a chance on the Twins. Lay $100 on Minnesota + $145.

We'll be back later with tonight's suggestions.

That's it for today gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one Peeps!

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

I'm Out.
