The Rest Of The Best

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

Last night was all about the NHL in the weekend recap and Hazie Awards. What a sweet day today listening to the fans of the SenaTards (they don't deserve to have the title "nation" attributed to them) whining and making excuses for their second straight loss to Buffalo. I won't go into all the crap I heard today, but I have to share one with you...to illustrate what kind of morons back this team.

A caller to the Team 1200 today summed up Ottawa's chances of coming back with one word - "Hasek". When told by the three morning half-wits that Hasek couldn't play, that his groin was shot - the caller responded "put him in anyways, he can't be worse than Emery." When told that with the injury, Hasek's lateral movement was pretty much non-existent, and he couldn't really get up and down on pucks - the genius replies "Who cares? We paid him a million bucks - we should get our money's worth. If he never plays again, who cares? We have to take our shot while he's here."

And that, my friends and readers, is why I hate the SenaTards, their fans, and everything about them.

Now, to finish off yesterday's entry, the Heroes and the "Not-So-Heroic" from the world of baseball and soccer.

HAZEL'S HEROES

EUROPEAN SOCCER
Jose Mourinho was awarded the Barclay's Manager of Season after guiding Chelsea to their second successive Premiership title. Mourinho claimed to be surprised by the award, given that he had not once won the Manager of the Month award this season. Surprising to see Mourinho getting credit in the British press for the award - if you have read this page in the past, you know that Mourinho and the British media have had a love/hate relationship since he took over Chelsea. My man Jose deserves a Hazie this week - I'd like to think that Hazel would agree.

Manchester United and Celtic played a tribute game for former United defender Roy Keane. Why does this get play on "Thoughts of Hazel Mae" you ask? Well, because Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of the match - and if you have read this page...you know that I think Hazel is going to be repeating Ronaldo's name a few times this June during the World Cup. So Cristiano, faz favor de vir ca para receber ou teu premio d'esta linda senhor Hazel. Remember Hazel...trill that R when you say his name this summer, a la Manny.

MLB
The National League Player of the Week for May 1-7 was Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley. Utley hit .483, adding three HRs, eight RBIs and a stolen base over the past week. He was a major reason why the Phillies went 7-0 last week. Check the MLB site for honourable mentions.

Note to "Hubie" - I'm not trading Pujols for Utley...even if Utley was the PoW. Thanks for offering to throw in Contreras as he heads to the DL. haha

The American League Player of the Week was Seattle P Joel Pineiro who went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.59, striking out six in 17 innings of work. A couple of other pitchers had great weeks; Johan Santana struck out 20 batters last week, while C.C. Sabathia won 2 games with an ERA of 0.69. Interesting side note - I know Pineiro pitched for Puerto Rico at the WBC, but I'm certain his roots are Portuguese. The spelling of his name is Portuguese - the "ie" is what makes me think this. Spanish last names don't include the "i" after the "e". So expect to see Joel's name here a few more times...along with Jonny Gomes, Shane Costa and of course my man Mark Teixeira.

Speaking of Teixeira, he announced the creation of a charitable fund that will award six $5,000 scholarships to kids in Dallas-Fort Worth area catholic high schools. I have to think that Hazel, being a big booster of kids maximizing their educational potential, would agree to hand Mark some hardware this week.

That about wraps it up for tonight - going back to the Ducks/Avs in overtime. The guys that would have gotten the "Not-So-Heroic" distinction will definitely be part of Weird & Whacked Wednesday. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

Song of the Night on Hazelspeeps - for Joel Pineiro

O Pineiro - Amalia Rodrigues (one of the great voices the world has ever known).

It occured to me - maybe I should start adding a "Buh Bye" after my Kip Dynamite reference.

Peesth Out...Buh Bye!
