QUIKDRAW'S RED SOX OFF SEASON FORECAST

Red Sox Pick Up '08 Options On Wakefield and Tavarez!

In a couple of shocking moves the Boston Red Sox have picked up the option on the eldest member of the Red Sox Tim Wakefield who will enter his 14th year as a Red Sox earning $4M.
Wakefield has had a $4M standing contract with the Sox for years.
If the Red Sox want to renew it-they renew it. If not-Wake retires a Red Sox. The $4M never goes up or down. Wakefield as you recall took himself of the WS roster because of back/shoulder pain/stiffness and was replaced by RP Kyle Snyder.
Its shocking because many felt given Wake's injury and that Boston won the WS that would be a perfect way for Tim to retire. Maybe it will still happen.
Could be the team out of loyalty picked up the '08 option so Wake could retire.
Think about it. If the Sox decline the option on Wake, its like kicking him to the curb like an unwanted puppy.

SP/RP Julian Tavarez a pitcher left off the ALDS,ALCS.WS rosters had his$3.85M option picked up by Boston. Many insiders figured Julian being off the post season rosters was the kiss of death for the erratic sinkerballer/traffic cop. Apparently not.

Red Sox who have filed for FA:
Schilling-$13M,Clement-$9M-Kielty-$2M,Gagne-$6M,Mirabelli-$$750K,Hinske-$5M,
Clayton-$1M
Lowell who was eligible to file after the final out of the WS? still has not filed.
