Melnyk A Champ

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special “Hey” goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

You know it’s a slow day when the SenaTards get some play here. Ottawa SenaTards billionaire owner Eugene Melnyk was at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto yesterday to announce that he was making a $1 million – yes that was MILLION – donation to the Patrons of Sport CAN fund to help Canada’s Olympic athletes who are in need of financial assistance. You can read more about Melnyk’s donation and Patrons of Sport CAN press conference here.

We can’t stand the damn Tards – but we have a lot more respect for their owner than we did yesterday.

In other NHL news – since we’re all “Barr-ied out”

AMERICAN JUSTICE
Those shit-disturbing Staal brothers (Eric and Jordan) have been offered plea deals in relation to their arrests at the elder Staal’s bachelor party in Minnesota last month. They are expected to plead guilty to petty misdemeanour for disorderly conduct – with the only punishment being pocket change fines of $587 for each brother, with Jordan to pay an additional $150 for underage drinking. If hockey players are going to be arrested anywhere in the U.S. – it might as well be in hockey-mad Minnesota.

DUMB AND DUMBER
John Ferguson Jr. is one of those funny guys who appears before the media to talk in riddles and essentially say nothing – he is the living embodiment of a game of three shell monty. It is next to impossible to get this guy to provide his opinion or position on anything when it comes to his actions as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs – so why then, when everyone else is mindful that Hockey God Brian Burke is pissed at Kevin Lowe for the amount of the offer sheet to Dustin Penner – does JFJ speak to the media in support of Lowe’s move?

We thought Lowe was dumb – not we know JFJ is “dumber”. Ferguson spoke to the media to say that he saw nothing wrong with what Lowe did and went on to say the Toronto Maple Leafs might do the same in the future. To that we say “WITH WHAT???” It doesn’t shock us that JFJ supports Lowe’s ridiculous FA offer – hell, JFJ is the guy that is paying Bryan McCabe $5.7 M per year. But why wouldn’t he keep his pie-hole shut, especially considering he has a few restricted free agents to deal with after this season. Oh wait, maybe he knows he won’t be around to negotiate with them…we can only hope.

We say that because JFJ has already been told by MLSE that he won’t be offered an extension this year – that an extension will come based on performance. We won’t hazard to guess what constitutes “performance” in Richard Peddie’s eyes – but we’re pretty sure it doesn’t have much to do with how the Leafs finish this year…JFJ has other duties around the ACC.
WEDNESDAY’S THREE STARS
Colorado Rockies 3B Garrett Atkins had four hits and drove in six runs in a 19-4 pasting of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Oakland A’s C Rob Bowen hits two home runs and drives in a 6-3 win over the Rangers – former Red Sox P Lenny DiNardo picks up the win.

San Francisco Giants P Matt Cain (bet you thought we were going to say Barry huh?) pitches six shutout innings, limiting the Nationals to three hits and a walk while striking out three in a 5-0 win – Cain helped his own cause by hitting a home run (up until a couple of weeks ago – he was on the Maeple Leafs roster…thanks for nothing Matt).

THURSDAY THREE PLAY
We had another good night, unfortunately for us Red Sox West were shut out again. Today’s suggestions, we’ll post some for tonight later this afternoon

Red Sox West over Cincinnati –the Dodgers have to win eventually – might as well be with a rookie on the mound for the Reds. Lay $100 on LA - $110 (the over works too)

Minnesota over Kansas City – we like Matt Garza over Kyle Davies, the Twins mount their usual August/September run to the top - no further explanation needed. Lay $100 on the Twins - $125.

That’s it for this morning – thanks for taking the time to check in. Special thanks again to Tilt. Have a great one Peeps.

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

We’re Out.
