Game On!

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals goes tonight in Carolina. I like the Oilers to win the Cup for the first time in 16 years - while the regular season stats would say that Carolina should walk away with the series. I like the Oilers for a number of reasons

• Dwayne Roloson is playing better than Cam Ward - though I was never sold on Roloson, you have to give him credit for the way he is playing. Cam Ward has had a couple of shaky moments during these playoffs. Slight edge to Edmonton
  
  
• Chris Pronger is the shutdown defenceman that Carolina lacks. Pronger can play 30 mins a game and neutralize the likes of Staal and Stillman - Carolina doesn't have anyone like that...few teams do. With Pronger, the Oilers are better behind the blueline than the Hurricanes.
  
  
• The Oilers scoring seems to be more balanced. Carolina is relying heavily on the same few guys - which they should be doing...your best players SHOULD be the guys you look to. But in the playoffs, it often comes down to contributions from other players - the Oilers are getting that.
  

I think what it comes down to is - if the Oilers can avoid the penalty box and that deadly Carolina power play...they can win this series. Edmonton can skate with the Hurricanes, they are as physical as the Hurricanes - and the one intangible Edmonton has is that people in Edmonton's organization have won a Stanley Cup...they know what it takes. That experience could prove to be the deciding factor.
