NFL Sunday Picks

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in today. We're a little late with this week's NFL Picks - for those of you who haven't been here before, the spreads were locked on Tuesday, so they may not reflect the latest numbers being thrown around. We got off to a good start this week, picking Dallas - 6.5 over Green Bay. This week's selections:

16) San Diego -4.5 over KANSAS CITY - the Chargers seem to have gotten things together on offensive side of the ball which isn't good news for a Chiefs team that gave up 20 points to the Raiders last week. Chargers win this one big today - pick of the day.

15) Denver -3.5 over Oakland - the Broncos will be looking to rebound after blowing one last week in Chicago - luckily for them, they won't be kicking to Devin Hester. The Broncos should be able to move the ball and score enough points against their hated rival and cover in this one. Broncos D had been playing better up until last couple of drives against the Bears.

14) PHILADELPHIA -2.5 over Seattle - the Seahawks are road wimps - they should have lost last week against the Rams and there is no reason to expect they'll beat (or even stay close to) the Eagles. Whether or not McNabb plays, the Eagles will be able to generate enough offence with Westbrook and LJ Smith down the middle of the field to win this one.

13) ST. LOUIS -4.5 over Atlanta - the Rams should have won their third in a row last week - expect the Rams to pound Steven Jackson and then use play action to take a few chances deep down field (away from DeAngelo Hall).

12) Cincinnati +8.5 over PITTSBURGH - the Bengals are coming off a very good offensive performance; the offence is rolling now and should be able to generate enough points to keep this one close (we're thinking the Bengals might win this one outright).

11) Jacksonville +7.5 over INDIANAPOLIS - the Jags have a history of playing the Colts tough; we like the Jags today because we expect them to continuously work at pounding the ball against a suspect (and still pretty "untested") Colts run D. Jags have some injury issues on D, but they are physical on both sides of the ball - you know how much trouble the Colts have with physical teams. (another game we think the road dog can win outright).

10) NEW ORLEANS -2.5 over Tampa Bay - the prospect of the Bucs having to resort to their third string QB if Garcia can't go is somewhat worrysome - even with Jason David at CB for the Saints. This will be one of those games that Brees looks like a champ and has Saints fans thinking "What if...".

09) WASHINGTON -5.5 over Buffalo - we expect the Skins to rally together in the wake of the death of Sean Taylor (as awful as that sounds for a reason to pick a game) - expect the D to play their best game of the season in memory of their leader.

08) DALLAS -6.5 over Green Bay - Toh-NEEE Roh-MOH - clap, clap, clapclapclap - we're going with that since the game has passed, but we've been telling you the Pack was counterfeit.

07) New England -20.5 over BALTIMORE - the Ravens D doesn't seem so invincible anymore - there seems to be some holes in the secondary with some players being banged up or coming off injury; not good news when you are going against the Pats. Memo to Tom Brady - the Maeple Leafs lead in the yahoo pool has dwindled, we need 300+ yards and five TDs - thanks!

06) CAROLINA -2.5 over San Francisco - unfortunately for the 49ers, they won't be up against a fumble-prone QB today. Look, it comes down to this, the Panthers have to win one at home eventually - might as be against one of the league's cream puffs.

05) New Jets +1.5 over MIAMI - how are the 0-10 Dolphins favoured? Ricky Williams' comeback didn't last very long. Jets are coming off a 10 day layoff - Kellen Clemens makes enough plays to get it done.

04) Houston +3.5 over TENNESSEE - the Texans have enough on offensive side of the ball to keep this one close against Young and the Titans. Tennessee hasn't really blown anyone out.

03) Detroit +3.5 over MINNESOTA - not sure why the Vikings are getting so much love (ok, three INT returns for TDs is something...but it was against Eli Manning). Detroit's pass first offence should be able to put some points up against the Vikings porous pass D.

02) ARIZONA -1.5 over Cleveland - everyone seems to be loving the Browns, but something tells us the Cards rebound after last week's embarrassment against the 49ers. Hold on to the damn ball Kurt Warner!

01) NY Giants +1.5 over CHICAGO - yuck. There's only one way to go for Manning. The Bears won last week due to Mike Shanahan's stupidity - Tom Coughlin won't punt to Hester, he'll make Grossman win the game; good game plan if you ask us.

We'll be back later with more - we'll take a look at three of the biggest donkeys in Toronto sports media today.

SATURDAY'S THREE STARS

Toronto Maple Leafs G Vesa Toskala made 30 saves in a 4-2 win over the Penguins last night. Toskala made a few big saves when he had to, but even more important was the fact that he made Toronto's D look good by giving up very few rebounds all night - he was the star of the night (plus, he tripped Crosby which was good for a snicker).

New York Rangers RW Brendan Shanahan had two goals in a 5-2 win over the SenaTards yesterday - suddenly, there's a goaltending controversy in Ottawa; problem is the controversy is about who is worse.

Calgary Flames RW Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 OT loss to the Blue Jackets yesterday - but Jarome get love here today for two reasons: first, he registered his 700th career point; second, he outscored Rick Nash which was great for our Pro-Line ticket yesterday.

SUNDAY THREE PLAY

Apologies to anyone who checked in yesterday for picks - we had issues with blogger. We cost you $700 last night - it was a dog-day afternoon/night for us, going 5-0. We didn't put it on here - but we had a Pro-Line ticket with the Rangers, Predators, Leafs, Blues, and Stars - which would have resulted in a + $700 night. We've got the ticket to prove it - but we can't take credit for it here, so the total for the week is even. Sorry gang - we'll make it up to you today with some early afternoon winners.

ST. LOUIS -3 over Atlanta - Lay $100 on the Rams, they'll get it done today.

PHILADELPHIA -3 over Seattle - factor in a little bit of cold weather in Philly and the Seahawks fold. Lay $100 on the Eagles.

Detroit +4 over MINNESOTA - Kitna won't throw three picks that get returned for TDs. Lay $100 on the Lions.

Jacksonville +6.5 over INDIANAPOLIS - the loss of Freeney and Harrison will make this game close - the money line at +240 for the Jags is enticing too. Lay $100 on the Jags with the points.

That's it for today gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. With news that Ricky Williams won't be suiting up for Miami, we had to post a song of the day for Ricky.

Because I Got High - Afroman
