Things hit rock bottom in Toronto

A brutal night in every sense of the word last night - highlighted (or low-lighted) by the Leafs getting embarrassed by the Phoenix Coyotes. The wagons are circling in Toronto today - JFJ is about to be burned at the stake, likely taking Paul Maurice with him. Talk in Toronto is that three former greats are being considered to replace Ferguson Jr. as GM of the Maple Leafs - Mark Messier, Ron Francis and Steve Yzerman are thought to be front runners.

Some will say that this shows desperation on the part of the Maple Leafs - maybe, but we'll tell Leaf Nation why this is a very good thing. More to come later, or more likely tomorrow - but we applaud this thinking...if its true.

Grey Cup Sunday up here with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers meeting in Hazel's hometown, at Hazel's old stomping grounds - the Rogers Centre. Saskatchewan is heavily favoured as Winnipeg is forced to turn to Ryan Dinwiddie as their starting QB, after Kevin Glenn suffered a broken arm in the Eastern Conference finals. Former Seattle Seahawks safety Kerry Joseph, Saskatchewan's starting QB, is poised to lead the Green Riders to their first Grey Cup in 20 years. Factoid about today's Grey Cup - the game features the teams with the CFL's worst records in Grey Cup games; together they have lost 25 Grey Cup games. We're think Hazel might take a break from her NFL Sunday to take a peek in on the big game.

There were some star performances yesterday - likely more than three - but in the wake of yesterday's embarrassment in Phoenix, we can't bring ourselves to check scoreboard to nominate anyone.

SUNDAY THREE PLAY
We were beyond bad last night - a first ever - an 0-5 night; we should have picked NCAA Football yesterday, because we were 7-0 and have the Pro-Line ticket to prove it. We'll add up to total tomorrow; today is all about chipping away at the ugliness. You don't have to take our word for it - but the law of averages says we have to rebound eventually...might as well be today. Today's suggestions (if you are still with us)

KANSAS CITY -4.5 over Oakland - we know all about the divisional games, but does anyone expect Culpepper and the Raiders to keep this one close after an abysmal performance last week? Didn't think so. Lay $100 on the Chiefs

ST. LOUIS +3.0 over Seattle - the Rams seem to have gotten things together (after an 0-8 start) and get points at home to the road wimp Seahawks? You have to take the points in this one - Rams will win outright. Lay $100 on St. Louis + $105.

CAROLINA +2.5 over New Orleans - the Saints seem to be the betting public's favourite today, but we aren't trusting these chumps. Carolina hasn't won at home yet, you have to figure they'll eventually win - so why not take them against a team that has been up and down (mostly down)? The X factor in this game is that Jason David will be taking the field for the Saints - so you can expect a monster game from Steve Smith. Lay $100 on the Panthers - $105.

TAMPA BAY -3.5 over Washington - the Bucs can take their division by the throat with a win today - Redskins still have injury issues in secondary which means Garcia to Galloway will be mentioned often today. Bucs get it done today at home. Lay $100 on the Bucs.
