Sunday's Quick Hits

The Maple Leafs/Red Wings game was an absolute joke last night - fourteen penalties called against Toronto to six against Detroit. Rogers Sportsnet hockey analyst John Garrett contends that in the new NHL, in games where referees supposedly call the game "close to the rules", the majority of penalties are against the visiting team. Last night's game in Detroit was a perfect example of Garrett's theory. Ahhh, you had to see it to understand - I'll just end up coming off like a whiner so I won't say anything. Renee's right - "Bring back Old Time Hockey".

NFL Sunday today and my Dallas Cowboys can go a long way towards securing home field advantage and a bye from the Wild Card game with a win against New Orleans tonight in Big D. Other games of note:

• Giants and Panthers - with the losers likely to fade from the wild card race;
  
• Colts and Jags - is this the beginning of the end for this year's Colts?
• Chiefs and Ravens - are the Chiefs a legitimate playoff team?
  

It'll be a fun Sunday that's for sure.

HAZEL'S THREE STARS
New York Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist was outstanding yesterday, stopping 34 shots in a 3-1 victory over the SenaTards. You know the deal about beating the Tards.

Minnesota Wild winger Mark Parrish had a hat-trick, including the overtime winner in a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Buffalo Sabres G Ryan Miller (Hazel's Maeple Leafs) made 31 saves in a 3-2 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens last night. That was good for the Three Play.


SUNDAY THREE PLAY
Well, the "bonus pick" came back to haunt us - I shouldn't have made it, but I did, so we'll count it against our total. We lost $40 last night, leaving our total for the week at - $50. The healing begins this afternoon.

Philadelphia +1 over Washington - The Redskins are done, they are playing out the string; meanwhile the Eagles are harbouring hopes of a run to the playoffs (which I doubt will happen). The Eagles win this one going away - division game or not. Lay $75 on the Eagles.

NY Giants +3 over Carolina - Talk is Weinke is in, and the Panthers are STILL giving up 3 points????? Tiki Barber and Brandon Jacobs run the ball all day on what has turned out to be a pretty soft Panthers D. Lay $50 on the Giants.

New England - 3.5 over Miami - You have to love this game with the way New England has played on the road. I don't understand this line, but I'll say "thank you" and take the Patriots. Lay $50 on the Patriots.

I'll check back in by 3 pm for the afternoon games. 3-0 at 1 o'clock though!
