Forca Portugal!

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in today. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

Portugal kicks off against Angola today at 3 pm - the beginning of the quest for the holy grail of soccer. I'll check in later with a recap of Day 2 of the World Cup, with a couple of surprise results - a very ordinary looking England narrowly beating Parguay 1 - 0 on an own goal (I told you...beware the Paraguayans), the Swedes tying against Trinidad and Tobago (who played the second half with only 10 men), and the Argentines beating the Ivory Coast 2 - 1. More on all of those games - plus today's early games later.

Today, it is all about Figo, Ronaldo and the Portuguese National Team. The forecast for most of Ontario calls for rain - same goes for Boston (for peeps in New England) so why not watch Portugal play today? Head to your favourite watering hole, head to a friend's place - or invite your peeps over - but just watch the damn game! Hazel, if you are peeking in - why not tune into ESPN2 if the Sox get rained out today...I'm sure it will be better than the Jays game vs the Tigers.

More later...including the Oilers pulling out an exciting 2 - 1 victory over Carolina. Have a great one peeps!

You should be looking for something to do that will hold your interest. Traveling or getting involved in a potentially lucrative business should be your goal today. Your competitive drive will keep you ahead of the crowd. 5 stars

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world, that you are enjoying a good weekend and that you watch the game this afternoon!

Song of the Day on Hazelspeeps - with the kickoff today - what else could it be but...

A Portugesa - Portuguese National Anthem (Portuguese and English lyrics)

Hero'is do mar, nobre povo,
Nac,a~o valente, imortal,
Levantai hoje de novo,
O esplendor de Portugal
Entre as brumas da memo'ria,
O' pa'tria sente-se a voz
Dos teus egre'gios avo's
Que ha'-de guiar-te `a vito'ria.

`As armas! `As armas!
Sobre a terra e sobre o mar!
`As armas! `As armas!
Pela Pa'tria lutar!

Contra os canho~es marchar, marchar!
Desfralda a invicta bandeira
`A luz viva do teu ce'u
Brade a Europa `a terra inteira
Portugal na~o pereceu!
Beija o solo teu jucundo
O oceano a rujir d'amor
E o teu brac,o vencedor
Deu mundos novos ao Mundo!

Saudai o sol que desponta
Sobre um ridente porvir;
Seja o eco d'uma afronta
O sinal de ressurgir.
Raios d'essa aurora forte
Sa~o como beijos de ma~e
Que nos guardam, nos suste^m,
Contra as inju'rias da sorte.

Heroes of the sea
Valiant and immortal nation,
Now is the hour to raise up on high once more
Portugal's splendour.
From out of the mists of memory,
Oh Homeland, we hear the voices
Of your great forefathers
That shall lead you on to victory!

To arms, to arms
On land and sea!
To arms, to arms
To fight for our Homeland!

To march against the enemy guns!
Unfurl the unconquerable flag
In the bright light of your sky!
Cry out to all Europe and the whole world
That Portugal has not perished.
Your happy land is kissed
By the Ocean that murmurs with love.
And your conquering arm
Has given new worlds to the world!

Salute the Sun that rises
On a smiling future:
Let the echo of an insult be
The signal for our revival.
The rays of that powerful dawn
Are like a mother's kisses
That protect us and support us
Against the insults of fate.

Peesth Out...Buh Bye!
