The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

Leaf Nation doesn't know what to make of the game last night at the Hanger. They looked to be down and out when the Penguins went up 3-0, and fears of another blowout loss started to surface. The charge back to take a 4-3 lead was obvioulsy good, they showed some fire and intensity, but blowing two leads shortly after working their asses off was bad - the O/T loss was the icing on the cake. The glass half full part of the Nation will take the point in a game where they looked like they were going to be blown out - the glass half empty will lament giving up a lead twice as proof that this team isn't going to make it. I'll reserve judgement this morning - but I will say that they have to win two of the next three (if not all three) or they can kiss the playoffs goodbye. To recap:
  • The Good: Sundin, Antropov and Ponikarovsky had another good game together; fighting back to erase a 3-0 deficit.

  • The Bad: Andrew Raycroft played his worst game in weeks; blowing a couple of leads; missing out on a chance to tie the Lightning.

  • The Ugly: RW Kris Newbury was knocked out cold in a fight, made worse falling straight back on his head, having to be taken off on a stretcher - reports last night said he was ok. Let's hope for his sake.
Montreal Canadien fans, let me be the first to serenade you with your favourite song - Nah nah nah nah, Nah nah nah nah, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye. The Habs dropped their second straight last night to the hated SenaTards - this one by a 5-3 count. The Habs are a lost, desperate team right now; witnessed by the fact that Habs coach Guy Carbonneau turned to Sergei Samsonov - a guy they waived and who went unclaimed earlier in the week. The Habs are finding out what most of us have known all along - their goaltending is average at best, and it is coming to bite them in the ass. From the beginning of the year, there were questions about whether either Cristobal Huet or David Aebischer could be number one goalies in the league - clearly they can't, and the Habs are going to pay for it. This Leaf fan is loving it.

Note to the Bruins fans who read the page - don't get too excited about last night's win. Your team is still eight points out of a playoff spot with four teams to pass; sorry guys, it isn't going to happen. The two games you have in hand mean nothing when you haven't been able to string a few wins together in months - at best you should expect to pick up a win, which would still leave you six points out. Look on the bright side though - you have Hazel doing The Buzz.

HAZEL'S THREE STARS
Boston Bruins LW Marco Sturm had two goals in regulation yesterday as the B's won 4-3 in a shootout over the New York Islanders. (Note to my pal Renee - game 1 of 10 for "Bo-chenski"...no goal in regulation and missed in the shootout - I mention that even though shootout goals won't count in our bet).

Dallas Stars G Mike Smith made 32 saves yesterday afternoon in a 1-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks. There has been a lot of talk about this guy being ready for a number 1 spot on a team - shutting out the Ducks seems to support that thought.

Minnesota Wild LW Marion Gaborik had 2 goals and an assist in a 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Leaf Nation extends their thanks to Marian and the Wild.

SUNDAY THREE PLAY
Well, another night where a big favourite killed us - if it is any consolation, Nashville cost me REAL $ because they blew a Pro-Line ticket for me. For those of you wondering - the Three Play is for entertainment purposes only, we don't lay real cash on the action.

We'll be back later with suggested plays for today.

Have a great one peeps.
