Tilt Report - Go fight a Pitbull

Congradulations to Jerry Yang, who took home a cool $8.25 million after taking down Canadian Tuan Lam (from Toronto/North York) at the 2007 World Series of Poker. Yang won the main event of the tournament, beating out 6,358 other competitors to take the title. It cost Yang essentially $225 to win $8.25 million as his $10,000 entry fee was won through a $225 satelite event at his local casino. This years WSOP drew less people however, the competition remained top notch.

What is it with Pacman Jones??? The guy gets suspended by the NFL and instead of waiting out his suspension he decides to enter pro wrestling. Personally I think he and Micheal Vick ought to get together and organize a Man vs. Pitbull competition. They can get Tom Donaghy to not only referee the contest but also to set the betting lines.

Its good to see that Kevin Garnett has found himself a new home in Boston. Between Garnett and Paul Pierce the Celtics seem to look like their on the verge of returning to the playoffs. From my perspective you can't lose with Garnett who has shown that he's not only one of the leagues best players - but also among the more classy players. Mind you its going to be strange to see Garnett put on a jersey that isn't a Minnisota jersey.

MLBs trade deadline is nearing and players are starting to be moved. Still have to wonder if Dontrelle Willis and Eric Gagne are going to get moved. Gagne will likely find himself a new home shortly (perhaps the Yankees, who have the aging Mariano Riveria). Speaking of the Yankee...but does A-Rod seem to be a bigger asshole these days??? And on that note...Barry Bonds WILL hit his record setting home run in San Francisco. San Frans management has spent WAY to much money not to let this little event happen at home. Bonds may tie the record on the road, but the record setting swing will happen AT&T Park.

Looks like Daunte Culpepper might not end up in Dallas afterall (I still think he will). Culpepper has been working out with the Raiders, given that JaMarcus Russell is still holding out. Speaking of hold outs, Micheal Strahan holding out can't be good news for the New York Giants. Can this team break down any more??? Somehow I sense a blow up of the current roster sometime during this season.

Last week I had a long discussion with a fan of NASCAR. Now, NASCAR still doesn't qualify as a sport to me (no motor sport actually does), but I still can't figure out the excitement of watching cars zip around a giant oval. I just wonder if you'd confuse the drivers if you made the make continuous left hand turns instead of continuous right hand turns.

Aight, I'm outta here...check in next week when I post my Top 10 Females of all time (unfortunately Hazel will NEVER make it onto my list).

JFJ - Wanna Meet Tilt?

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

Over the weekend, we looked at the reaction of Hockey God Brian Burke on Edmonton's offer to Anaheim F Dustin Penner - Burke characterized it as a move by a desperate GM who is worried about keeping his job. Well, it seems like Leaf Nation is dealing with the same issue in Toronto.

The latest news from Toronto is that John Ferguson Jr. is trying to trade 23 year old C Matt Stajan in order to free cap space to sign FA C Michael Peca, who broke his leg last year and missed most of the season. We're all for signing a character guy like Peca for a bargain basement price - but at the expense of a 23 year old kid who has proven that he is a capable third or fourth line center? We are at a loss to figure out what JFJ is thinking in this case - it makes absolutely no sense...but then again, this pretty much sums up JFJ's tenure in Toronto. The next time we see his dumb mug talking about "the future of the franchise" and "building a winner through scouting and development" we are going down to Toronto to find him...and Tilt is going to dust off his black belt a deliver a thunderous round house kick to the side of his stupid melon. For those of you that didn't know - Tilt's a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Other things occupying our thoughts today

We're looking forward to hearing what Ron Mexico's "co-defendant" has to say today as he is expected to enter a guilty plea.

Many thanks to the few, the proud, and the delusional who emailed us to point out the irony of Freddy Adu signing with Benfica of Lisbon after we raked him over the coals for his play at the Under-20 World Championship. First off, they are talking about a transfer...it hasn't been confirmed yet. Second, if they do, its only about how much money they can make off of him - they are willing to pay $2M US which amounts to nothing; you have to think Benfica would get a big piece of Adu's endorsement money when Nike starts pushing the American playing in Europe. Third, get over yourselves guys - we won't be an impact player...and it isn't a stepping stone to the Premiership, the Primera Liga or Serie A. But we're glad you took note.

We're tired of hearing the talk (yes, its been less that 24 hours) about the Asterisk hitting his 755th HR in Los Angeles...its not going to happen, not at Dodger Stadium.

WEDNESDAY'S THREE STARS

The Big Z, Carlos Zambrano pitched 7.1 solid innings, shutting the Reds out on two hits and three walks while striking out six. The Big Z becomes the majors' first 14 game winner...oh where have you gone Josh Beckett????

Atlanta Braves 3B Larry Jones drives in five runs with one hit and a couple of sac flys - not a great day by any stretch...but five RBI with one hit? It is worth a mention.

Former Red Sox CF Johnny Damon had three hits, two runs and scored four times in the Yankees' 10-6 win over the O's. We feel bad for Johnny who is having a bad season...so we have to show him some love today.

MONDAY THREE PLAY
We'll add up last week's total later. Three quick suggestions.

Los Angeles over Seattle - battle of former Blue Jays P, Kelvim Escobar and Miguel Batista. We'll take Escobar every time. Lay $100 on the Angels - $130 (we know...we know...Anaheim based team).

Toronto over Tampa Bay - Andy Sonnanstine has been getting pummeled by everyone...Dustin McGowan has not. Lay $100 on the Jays - $135.

Minnesota over Kansas City - the edge goes to Gil Meche...but we like the Twins at home today. Lay $100 on the Twins - $120.

That's it for today gang...thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps!

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

We're out.

Hockey God Speaks - Like Only He Can

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in today.

You had to know it wouldn't take long for Hockey God (aka Anaheim Ducks GM Brian Burke) to share his views on the offer tendered to Ducks forward Dustin Penner by Kevin Lowe of the Edmonton Oilers. The business of professional sports is run by men who always try to respect their colleagues and not cause any waves or show signs of dissention amongst the ranks - Brian Burke is one man who really does march to the beat of his own drummer and has no problem calling out a player or fellow GM if he thinks something stinks. You can read Burke's thoughts on TSN - it is definitely worth the read.

This is why we've got a case of man-love for Burke, he pulls no punches. We wouldn't give a squirt of pee to be in Kevin Lowe's shoes right now - you know Burke is going to file this one in the memory banks and use this to kick Lowe right in the nuts somewhere down the road. From our perspective, the offer to Penner has more to do with Lowe's bruised ego after getting fleeced by Burke in the Pronger trade.

In other news

Things continue to get worse for Michael Vick as his "good name" is shelved by Nike. The sporting goods giant announced that it had decided to suspend Vick's contract with them, WITHOUT PAY and halting sales of Vick-related shoes and other products - to make matters worse, Reebok announced that they were pulling his jersey's off the shelf. If all that wasn't bad enough - news out today suggests that one of Vick's co-defendants plans to enter a guilty plea on Monday...we are about to find out about Ron Mexico's involvement in this mess.

Don't look know but the Asterisk hit his 754th home run last night - history could be made this weekend, regardless of how you view it, it is history.

MLB trade rumours about before the July 31st deadline for moving players without them having to clear waivers. One rumour that intrigues us has the Dodgers moving first baseman James Loney to the Rangers for Mark Texeira - while we hate the thought of moving a good young player like Loney...we love the thought of the Dodgers having a Portuguese kid on the roster.

Our man Sparky in yahoo group is convinced the Sox are going to get Jermaine Dye from the White Sox this weekend - saying the Sox have assured him he'll get 5 games per week. We'll see, but we've learned not to doubt Sparky.

FRIDAY'S THREE STARS
Winnipeg Blue Bombers slotback Milt "Chocolate Milt" Stegall set a CFL record yesterday when he caught his 138th TD passes putting him number one on the all-time list for touchdowns.

Cleveland Indians SS Jhonny Peralta hit two home runs and drove in five to lead the Tribe to a 10-4 win over the Twins.

We're giving the third star to Anaheim Ducks GM Brian Burke for bitch-slapping Kevin Lowe.

SATURDAY THREE PLAY
Tough night last night splitting picks - but as a bonus (we're taking it) the Yankees and O's completed a suspended game we picked back on June 28 - so the total stands at + $230 for week. Today's suggestions:

Atlanta over Arizona - we'll go with John Smoltz over Doug Davis today, Atlanta will be looking for payback after last night's loss in extras; expect Smoltz to shut down a weak DBacks hitting lineup. Lay $100 on the Braves - $135.

New York over Baltimore - we aren't quite sold on Clemens...but we are taking the Yankees offence against Burres in this one. Lay $100 on New York - $175.

Minnesota over Cleveland - the Tribe had a good night against Boof Bonser - things will be a lot tough against Johan Santana tonight. Lay $100 on the Twins - $140.

Toronto over Chicago - the Jays have been better of late, fooling their fans into thinking they can get back into the race - yeah right. Still though, you have to like Halladay against Buehrle tonight. Lay $100 on Toronto - $135.

That's it for today gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world - have a great weekend.

We're Out.

"Lowe" Down, Dirty, Rotten Thing To Do...

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

The gloves are off in the NHL - Edmonton Oilers GM Kevin Lowe has extended another offer to a restricted free agent - this time to Dustin Penner of the Anaheim Ducks. The Oilers have offered Penner $21.25M over 5 years - meaning the Ducks have seven days to match the offer or accept a first, second and third round pick as compensation should they choose to let Penner walk.

Lowe may very well change the face of hockey with his bold moves. When the NHL adopted a salary cap, the prevailing wisdom was that you had to draft and nurture good young players who would come cheap, thus allowing you to keep your best players or sign a couple of free agents to bolster your roster. What Lowe has done over the last few weeks is put his colleagues on notice that they can't bank on retaining talented players for "under market value" just because they aren't eligible for free agency. Teams are now going to have to factor in big raises for good young players winding up entry level contracts. Don't be surprised if a number of other small market teams start using Lowe's strategy to force player movement across the league - in addition to evaluating talent, GMs are now going to have to make decisions on players based on cost-effectiveness and value for money.

Kevin Lowe couldn't attract any free agents this summer, so he is going to use his cap flexibility to screw up plans of a few other teams. The irony in all of this is that a few years ago Lowe would have been leading the pack of GMs from small market teams whining that they couldn't compete with big market teams who were throwing around huge sums of money (often overpaying guys) for young players who had not yet proven themselves. Fast forward to the present - Lowe has screwed one small market team (Buffalo) and has put the screws to another (Anaheim) by offering ridiculous contracts to a couple of good young players who haven't really established themselves as front line players. Lowe is threatening to bring down the very system he, and many of his colleagues, fought so hard to implement.

Lowe has to be the most loved and hated man in the NHL today - loved by the NHL Players Association for finding a loophole around restricted free agency, and reviled by his colleagues who have to change how they think about building their teams.

In other news

Michael Vick entered a "not guilty" plea in his first court appearance on conspiracy charges - Vick issued a statement saying that he takes the charges "very seriously and look forward to clearing my good name". What makes Vick think that his name was ever good? Can you "clear your good name"? (sounds grammatically incorrect) Did he mean clearing the good name of Ron Mexico? We're perplexed?

Cincinnati Bengals take note - reinstatement to the NFL after serving a suspension more than just a rubber stamp...they need look no further than former teammate Odell Thurman who had his request denied by Roger Goddell.

Barry Bonds vs Bob "the midget man" Costas. Next stop pay per view

Fiesta Bowl star hiring security for wedding amidst racist threats - Boise State running back Ian Johnson, who celebrated the winning touchdown in the Fiesta Bowl by running to the sideline to propose to his cheerleader girlfriend has hired security to be present at his wedding in Boise this weekend. We wish Ian and Cindy Popadics all the best. Hey, are we the only ones who are getting a chuckle out of a cheerleader having a last name of Popadics? That's a pretty good name to put on a cheerleading application. We hope she hyphenates her last name Popadics-Johnson...we'll let you mull that over.

THURSDAY'S THREE STARS
Boston Red Sox LF Manny Ramirez had three hits, including two home runs, and drove in four runs to lead the Sox to a 14-9 win over the Indians. Honourable mention goes out to Wily Mo Pena who had four hits, including a home run, and four runs batted in. We mention Wily Mo because our man Sparky has been on a crusade to get WMP traded for a bag of balls.

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols had two hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs to lead the Cards to an 11-1 trouncing of the Cubs.

Houston Astros P Wandy Rodriguez pitched seven solid innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out six, in the Astros' 7-1 win over Boomer Wells and the Padres.

FRIDAY'S THREE PLAY
We recovered from a lousy afternoon to go 4-0 last night - the total for the week stands at + $255; hey, if Julio Lugo and Wily Mo can make it over the Mendoza line...we can get this back in black. It'll just take a while. Today's suggestions

San Diego over Houston - would the real Jake Peavy please stand? Peavy has been getting knocked around a bit of late, but we expect him to display his early season form against Houston tonight. Woody Williams goes for the Astros so you know the Padres are good for four or five runs. Lay $100 on San Diego - $150.

New York over Washington - Mets made a couple of errors to throw away yesterday's game, not likely to happen again. We like Sosa over Bacsik tonight in a walk. Lay $100 on the Mets - $180.

New York over Baltimore - Yankees are hitting the cover off the ball (well, maybe not last night) which doesn't bode well for Jeremy Guthrie and the O's; we'll take Pettitte tonight. Lay $100 on the Yankees - $140.

Seattle over Oakland - M's have lost six in a row...we're going with the strategy that says "they have to win eventually" - who better to get them out of this funk that Felix Hernandez?

That's it for today gang...thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

Thursday Night Three Play

For those of you still playing in the wake of the NBA "rogue official" scandal.

We had a tough afternoon today, with Francisco Cordero of the Brewers blowing a save opp in the ninth and losing it in the tenth...way to go jackass. Tonight's suggestions

San Francisco over Atlanta - Giants youngster Tim Lincecum pitching well these days and he gets the nod over Buddy Carlyle. Lay $100 on the Giants - $135.

Boston over Cleveland - Kason Gabbard wants to prove he belongs - Cliff Lee of the Tribe doesn't belong. Lay $100 on the Sox - $105.

Oakland over Seattle - you know what they say about teams coming off a road trip...factor in that Jeff Weaver is pitching for the M's and the A's look like a great bet, especially with Dan Haren. Lay $100 on the A's - $120.

Red Sox West over Colorado - no second half letdown for Brad Penny this year. Dodgers should knock Rodrigo Lopez around for a win. Lay $100 on Los Angeles - $140.

That's it for tonight gang...have a great one.

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

We're Out.

Quick Hits

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

Curt Schilling just can't seem to keep his big yap shut - a couple of months ago, he shot his mouth off about Barry Bonds and his personal life only to apologize later on his blog. Schilling is mouthing off again about Barry, and Mark McGwire gets called out too. According to Schilling, if you don't fight to clear your name, if you don't sue someone's ass for calling your name into question - you're basically admitting that what is being said about you is true. We hear Bonds and McGwire are going to issue a million dollar challenge a la Curt Bloody Sock challenge.

Speaking of loud mouths (Schilling) - Eric and Jordon Staal were arrested in Minneapolis, after things got a little out of hand at a bachelor party. No big deal though...the charges are misdemeanors and amount to these guys making too much noise...still funny though.

UCLA Asst Coach Eric Scott arrested - Eric Scott an asst coach with UCLA Bruins football team was arrested, along with two other men, on suspicion of burglary.

Lance Armstrong must be laughing - This year's Tour de France has been rocked by positive drug tests - does anyone care?

WEDNESDAY'S THREE STARS

Cleveland Indians P Fausto Carmona got his revenge on the Boston Red Sox, pitching eight shutout innings and limiting the Sox to four hits and two walks while striking out six in the Tribe's 1-0 win.

Detroit Tigers RF Ryan Raburn did his best impersonation of Gary Sheffield, going 4-5 with two home runs and seven runs batted in, in a 13-9 win over the White Sox.

Toronto Blue Jays C Gregg Zaun went 3 for 4, with a home run and four runs batted in to lead the Jays to a 13-1 win over the Twins. Zaun really had a "neat" day.

THURSDAY THREE PLAY

For those of you still following - we were 2-1 yesterday...balance sheet stands at + $100...its going to be a long road back, but we'll get there. Suggestions for this afternoon - we'll be back later with night games.

Baltimore/Tampa Bay over 10 - Edwin Jackson and Steve Trachsel are on the mound today...so expect balls to be flying all over Camden Yards today. Lay $100 on the over - $110.

Milwaukee over Cincinnati - we'll go with Dave Bush over Bobby Livingston. We like Milwaukee to respond with a big game after losing last night to Kyle Lohse of all people. Lay $100 on the Brewers - $125.

New York over Pittsburgh - this isn't a case where we suggest wagering against a sweep - we like Perez over Maholm...BIG TIME. Lay $100 on the Mets - $220.

That's it for today gang...thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps!

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

Picking Up On Tilt's Report

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

Well, it looks like Tilt took a break from online poker to pick up the slack in the wake of our mini-vacation with a Tilt Report - in keeping with Tilt's entry from yesterday; here's what caught our eye:

We don't normally do NBA stuff because its a crap-hole league - but we would be remiss if we didn't point out the latest scandal that could bring the league to its knees. Tim Donaghy "resigned" from the NBA while being investigated for allegedly betting on games, including some he officiated in. David Stern is in full damage control, emphatically stating that Donaghy is the "lone official" - the stories surfacing about Donaghy are both compelling (looking at some of his questionable calls) to disturbing (reports from neighbours etc). To think that Donaghy is the only official to ever do this would be naive. The pressure on Donaghy to keep his mouth shut must be intense - from the league not wanting to have another scandal on their hands to his "associates" who want to protect their interests.

When people talk about gambling, the term "degenerate gambler" is often thrown around - Tim Donaghy may very well be the face of the degenerate gambler when this investigation is over.

We have stated a number of times that our "Three Play" suggestions are for entertainment purposes only - it is precisely because of stories like this why we don't suggest wagering your cash on a game where the outcome can be determined in so many ways other than the play of the athletes.

Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced he will try to be in attendance if/when Barry Bonds passes Hank Aaron on the all-time home run list. While some will be quick to applaud Bud for finally acting like a commissioner - we can't help but wonder if Bud's statement had anything to do with the fallout from the Donaghy issue. Think about it, how long before the media comes knocking on Selig's door to ask about umpires who may or may not be betting on games? You have to think they are going to move to baseball and hockey (maybe not since it isn't a big money betting sport) to ask if their officials could be caught up in something like this. What better way for Selig to distance MLB from a betting scandal than to make headlines by saying he will attend Barry's big event - he can just speak about baseball and Barry.

Speaking of Barry - his ex-mistress (Barry's bimbo) has agreed to tell her story and give details of her relationship with the Asterisk...TO PLAYBOY. Yup, Kimberly Bell is going to bare all - literally and figuratively. Bell said the shoot was liberating and has done wonders for her self esteem - ah...the wonders of airbrushing.

Boston Red Sox P Jon Lester gets the call from Pawtucket and pitches six solid innings against the Indians to pick up a win. No talk of steroids or performance enhancing drugs, no talk of cheating, no negative talk at all. Lester's story is one of courage, heart and determination - beating cancer and making it back to the major leagues to be a factor in his first game. Lester will definitely feature in our next installment of The Champs & Chumps.

Speaking of Boston - Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli is on a mission this year. Chiarelli seems intent on redefining the term "donkey", and leaving John Ferguson Jr a distant second in terms of the worst GM in the league. The Bruins announced they had traded G Hannu Toivonen to the St. Louis Blues to C Carl Soderberg. In his announcement Chiarelli talked about a succession plan and how a 23 year old goalie (drafted in the first round) didn't fit into their plans - he's counting on Fernandez, Thomas and former Leafs draft pick Tuuka Rask. Chiarelli's latest acquisition comes with his own baggage - first off, a serious eye injury that has left him with 20/80 vision and "character" issues. Chiarelli is becoming the Dr. Phil of the NHL - acquiring guys like Fernandez, Schafer and Soderberg. Dr. Phil acknowledged that Toivonen could evolve into an elite goaltender and that Soderberg might not be an elite player but a good player. Fret not B's fans - Chiarelli discussed Soderberg's "character" issues with the Blues but was willing to take the risk.

Memo to "PC" - when a GM (who was a goalie in the league) asks for a young goalie in your system...you may want to think twice about trading that guy - he obviously sees something you don't. Keep wheeling and dealing big guy...you are doing wonders for the morale of guys like JFJ.

The FIFA Under-20 World Championship wrapped up in Toronto on Sunday with Argentina beating the Czech Republic by a count of 2-1. The game was not without controversy as the Argentinians put on a theatrical display again - diving and embellishing the slightest bit of contact to make it look like a mortal wound. They were celebrating Sunday night...but we wonder how they will feel when they watch the tape of their championship game. The Argentinians were so blatant in their theatrics that they forced the Czechs to try and pull the same stunts. Sad ending to a sad tournament.

Michael Vick has been asked not to report to training camp - but it isn't a suspension as he will still be paid...good work if you can get it.

TUESDAY'S THREE STARS

Toronto Blue Jays CF Vernon Wells had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs in Toronto's 7-0 win over the Twins at the Rogers Centre. Hazel would want to see her old pal "Dr. Evil" get some recognition here. Honourable mention goes to Dustin McGowan who pitched shutout ball over 7.1 innings - now if he would just shave those ridiculous sideburns.

Boston Red Sox P Daisuke Matsuzaka held the Indians scoreless over seven innings, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out five, in Boston's 1-0 win.

Texas Rangers P Eric Gagne saves both ends of a game/night doubleheader against the Seattle Mariners. Gagne's line for the day 2 SV, 2 IP, 2 H, 3 K.

Thanks for nothing...

Dodgers P Rudy Seanez gives up four runs, including a bases loaded shot to Craig Biggio, as Red Sox West go down to Houston - earlier in the day Biggio announced he would retire at the end of the season.

WEDNESDAY THREE PLAY

Repeat after us - for entertainment purposes only. Ok, so if you followed last week's suggestions, it wasn't very entertaining - it was by far our worst week...we think it had something to do with crooked MLB umpires (that's what we're going with). The total for the year stands at an ugly (though imaginary) - $2,200. Today's suggestions if you are up for them...

Baltimore over Tampa Bay - if Daniel Cabrera shut the DRays down...what will Eric Bedard do the them? We like Bedard over Sonnanstine in a walk. Lay $100 on the O's - $185.

Minnesota over Toronto - J.P. Ricciardi is smiling these days, we don't know why but we can't stand it. Chickenhawk's smile disappears today as the Twins get a win over Jesse "Rojo" Litsch. Lay $100 on the Twins even.

Philadephia over Washington - we like Cole Hamels today over Nats Matt Chico - no way Washington wins today. Lay $100 on the Phillies - $240.

That's it for today gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one.

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

We're Out.

Tilt Report - July 23, 2007

K - can someone please explain to me what the NFL is doing? With all due respect to the Commissioner but Micheal Vick ought to be suspended without pay. Guilty or not, the one thing about Vick at the current time is that he's an idiot. How do you throw a multi-million dollar career by getting yourself involved (or even leaving the optics of being involved?). I mean seriously, couldn't Vick's friends (who are likely the key players) find something more useful and constructive with their time? Instead of running an illegal dog fighting ring - how about running a foundation to help out inner city youths? Oh, I forgot helping out kids doesn't quite bring the street credibility that illegal dog fighting does. And speaking of street credibility - HEY VICK...you make MILLIONS - if that's not enough street cred. I don't know what is.

Speaking of the NFL - training camps opened this week. Should be an interesting lead up to the start of the season. Still wondering how long it will be before Dante Culpepper joins the Dallas Cowboys.

Ray Emery and the Ottawa Senators avoided arbitriation when he signed a three year contract for $9.5 million. I'll give credit to Emery and his agent for getting the most out of the Sens. But really, is Emery worth that amount of money? Having said that are half of the players in the NHL worth their salaries??? Let's hope that with Crosby signing his contact extention it brings down the salaries that players are seeking. If Crosby is worth $8.7 million annually, there is no way that other players can be worth more than $9 million.

What is going on in MLB. The Yankees are smacking the ball all over the place, Aaron Harang pitches 10+ innings (in a no decision) after burying his father. Bonds keeps eyeing the home run record, but keeps falling short...if the San Fran management want Bonds to hit the record home run at home...they should just bench Bonds on the road. Give the old man a break and let him sit. Toronto apparently is NOT looking to move Troy Glause (JP loves this guy) but I doubt that he'll be in a Jays jersey by trade deadline. JP do the right thing and trade for some pitching!!!

The under-20s football tournament is over. Outside of a minor international incident the event went well across Canada. Congrats to Argentina for taking it down. Football continues to grow in North America and it may be in FIFAs interest to have a North American country host another World Cup soon.

Sunday Three Play

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

Today's Three Play suggestions.

Chicago over San Fran - Cubs lost a tough one yesterday, expect Sean Marshall to get them back on track. Lay $100 on the Cubs - $165.

San Diego over Philadelphia - Peavy vs Durbin - enough said. Lay $100 on the Padres - $210.

Cincinnati over Florida - we'll go with Rock Star Arroyo today. Lay $100 on the Reds even.

Seattle over Toronto - we still think Halladay isn't 100% - so we'll go with King Felix today. Lay $100 on the Mariners +$130.

That's it for today gang - thanks for taking the time to check in.

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

The World Is Watching Now

Well, it has become an international incident now. Thursday night's brawl between the Chilean Under-20 team (their officials and delegation) and the Toronto Police Department has now become a matter between governments - as the Chilean government has asked for a full explanation on the incident. The Under-20 team is playing this one up to the max (like they did on the field) - painting themselves as innocent victims or an over zealous and over aggressive police force who beat them and used excessive force for no good reason; the party line is "we just wanted to speak to the fans".

The Chilean government is throwing out some pretty heavy statements in the context of international relations - stating that actions of police were "clearly not justified" and referring to "the excessive violence" used by police.

In Chile, protesters gather around the Canadian Embassy to chant "Racist Canada". The news media has also been all over this, painting a picture of these young, naive, innocent kids who "went looking for glory and found hell." Of course, the cartel known as FIFA issued a statement saying that they would "investigate the matter" - but would let the Canadian Soccer Association handle this matter (mess).

This whole incident, much like the tournament itself, has been a farce. Canada will undoubtedly accept/welcome blame for the whole incident and absolve the Chileans of any wrongdoing to maintain international relations. FIFA will close its investigation saying that they let the Canadian Soccer Association and government handle the matter and will deem the tournament a success in spite of what happened - and will never award another tournament to Canada.

The obvious question here is - Why are the Chileans being absolved of any responsibility for this incident? Less than a month after the senior team raised hell in Venezuela at the Copa America, the youth team gets into trouble in Canada of all freaking places. We think we see a pattern here. One last thing, isn't it ironic that a South American country like Chile is condemning police in Canada for use of excessive force - that strikes us as being freaking hysterical. Maybe the government leaders in Chile have forgotten who Pinochet was?

We aren't the type to say we told you so, but we told you so. This friggin tournament had NO BUSINESS (business is the operative word with FIFA) being held in Canada - we weren't ready for it and certainly aren't accustomed to handling events like this and the trouble they bring.

That's our rant for today.

FRIDAY'S THREE STARS

Tampa Bay Devil Rays CF B.J. Upton had three hits, including two home runs, and three runs batted in to lead the Rays to a 14-4 drubbing of Mike Mussina and the Yankees - he killed our three play last night.

Boston Red Sox SS Julio Lugo is now safely out of range of the Mendoza line after a three hit performance which included a home run and four runs batted in, to lead the Sox to a 10-3 win over the White Sox.

Baltimore Orioles P Eric Bedard struck out eleven Oakland batters over seven innings, allowing only one hit and three walks, in a 6-1 win over the A's. Unfortunately for us, his win came at the expense of Maeple Leafs starting P Joe Blanton.

SATURDAY THREE PLAY
It was ugly yesterday - really ugly, 1-2 but killed by favourites. We'll get back on track with three nooners - we'll post suggestions for night games later. Today's suggestions.

Chicago over Arizona - we like Rich Hill to put up back to back good starts as he faces Micah Owings and the DBacks. Lay $100 on the Cubs - $165.

Los Angeles over NY Mets - like we said with Beckett's start yesterday - the staff Ace has to stop the bleeding; we like Penny to do that today against Jorge Sosa and the Mets. Lay $100 on the Dodgers - $140.

Milwaukee over San Francisco - Giants starter Tim Lincecum has been very good all year, but we like the Brewers to hand him his first bad start in a while. Lay $100 on the Brewers - $135.

That's it for today gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

We're out.

Welcome to the World Chile

We start this morning off by welcoming Chile to the crapshoot that FIFA – for the most part, Chile has never really experienced big time success in international play, so you can almost excuse them for not knowing how things work in a high stakes tournament run by the cartel known as FIFA.

Yesterday’s Under-20 World Championship Semi-Final against Argentina was being looked at as a showcase game in the tournament (after the disappointment that was Mexico v Argentina last Sunday night) with two of the more offensively gifted teams squaring off – it was to be a free flowing South American style game. Instead, it denigrated into a chippy affair filled with questionable tackles, loads of warnings and cards (issued mostly to the Chileans – 7 yellow, and two red cards, including a straight red card given early in the first half) and theatrical dives where the players must have been under the impression that style points were being given for embellishment.

The Chileans, for their part, tried to overcome a man being sent off early in the first half – taking the play to the Argentines. But things completely unraveled after Argentina went up in the 65th minute – the Chileans, seemingly frustrated at the Argentines’ theatrical display, lost it and started fouling hard. By the time they went down another man in the 77th minute, it was evident that they were going to make Argentina pay a physical price for the game’s events. The Chileans fans got into the act with one charging on to the field to get at the Referee – luckily, he was “intercepted” by some of the Chilean players who “escorted” him to police.

Almost an after-thought, the Argentines won 3-0 – but the insanity was just getting started. The Chileans, incensed at the questionable calls made throughout the game tried to get at the Referee. It was a scene straight out of a South American YouTube clip where the Referee had to run for cover and be escorted out of the stadium by police. Things spilled over outside the stadium where the Chileans, still furious and cranked up over the loss, started fighting with security guards and police as they boarded their bus. Things got so out of control that a member of the Chilean delegation ended being tasered by the police. Stories on the incident – The Toronto Star, The Toronto Sun, Rogers Sportsnet.

We’re sensing a problem with the Chileans – earlier this month, the senior team had issues at the Copa America where they trashed their hotel after being knocked out of the tournament, and now the youth team pulls this garbage. Note to the Chileans – its FIFA, get used to it…if they don’t want you to win, YOU DON’T WIN. Frankly, we’re a little surprised at their reaction, especially since they were put in this position by being the beneficiaries of some questionable calls that helped them beat Portugal and Nigeria.

Karma boys…Karma.

Bad night for most of us writing/read the page (except Tilt who is a Jays fan) – Red Sox drop another one, this time 4-2 to the stinking White Sox and Red Sox West go down in a big way to the Mets 13-9. Memo to Blue Jays fans – please, no email about yesterday’s win against the Yankees, if you are celebrating the lone win in a four game series…you’ve got problems.

Leaf Nation still waiting with baited breath for the word that Bryan McCabe has been traded to the Islanders – we still think it’s a cruel joke.

Ottawa SenaTards still think someone is dumb enough to step up and take back-up G Martin Gerber and his albatross of a contract off their hands – unfortunately SenaTards South GM Peter Chiarelli already has three goalies…or you know he’d be in the running.

Another indication that Isles Head Coach Ted Nolan is a stand up guy – Nolan has offered to let former Isles coach Al Arbour coach the team in a game against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The game will be Arbour 1500th behind the bench – classy move by Nolan. The guy continues to rise above the crap heaped on him by Dominik “Robotron” Hasek and Sid Dithers (aka John Muckler).

THURSDAY’S THREE STARS
Milwaukee Brewers rookie P Yovani Gallardo pitched six shutout innings, limiting the DBacks to three hits, while giving up two walks and striking out four in the Brewers 3-0 win over Arizona.

San Diego Padres P Chris Young threw seven shutout innings to out-duel Cole Hamel of the Maeple Leafs in a 1-0 win at Petco. Young gave up two hits and walked three, while striking out six. Bad result if you are a fan of Red Sox West.

Los Angeles Angels P Kelvim Escobar didn’t bring his A-game to the park yesterday, but he battled his way through 7.2 innings – managing to shut the DRays out despite giving up nine hits and three walks. Ok, it wasn’t a great performance…but it saved our Three Play from a horrendous day.

THURSDAY’S CHUMPS
We don’t normally do this…BUT

Florida Marlins P Armando Benitez really deserves some special recognition for blowing it yesterday against the Reds. Benitez came in to pitch the eighth with the Marlins leading 5-3, and gave up four hits, including a three-run shot to freakin Ryan Freel of all people (.247, 3, 15), and four runs to blow the game and our night time Three Play. Dick.

Thoughts of Hazel Mae’s Ottawa Tilt – for messing with my subject line on yesterday afternoon’s post. I keep trying to tell him “Asian guys aren’t funny”.

FRIDAY’S THREE PLAY
A bad day/night – it sucks when you split game but get juiced to death. The total is a little ugly - $415, but we have a plan. Our strategy today is “yesterday’s losers are today’s winners.” Hey, it’s as good as any the so-called experts profess to have.

Boston over Chicago – the Sox need their Ace to step up and stop the bleeding. We expect Beckett to dominate tonight, while the Sox should (we hope) get untracked against Jose Contreras who has been pitching batting practice for the better part of the season. Lay $100 on the Red Sox - $220.

New York over Tampa – Mussina and Edwin Jackson go up against each other for the second time in less than a week. The Yankees will be looking to take their frustrations out on someone after blowing yesterday’s game to the stinking Jays – we couldn’t think of a more likely candidate than Edwin Jackson. This game is going to go over too. Lay $100 on the Yankees - $300.

Detroit over Kansas City – the Royals had a good time in Boston, but they’ll find things quite a lot tougher in Motown. We like Kenny Rogers over Gil Meche tonight – Tigers didn’t lose last night, but we still like them. Lay $100 on the Tigers - $210.

That’s it for this morning gang – thanks for taking the time to check in.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

We’re Out.

Thursday Night Foreplay....

Jokes about the subject line please.

Our afternoon started out well with the Angels winning and the Yankees leading until the top of the 7th – should have listened to our gut before suggesting the Yankees today. Ok, after splitting the afternoon, the total stands at - $215 (the Yankees were - $220 today). So tonight’s suggestions are

Atlanta over St. Louis – the Cardinals have been riding Albert Pujols’ bat since the all-star break, but we like Tim Hudson to silence the big guy tonight. Lay $100 on the Braves - $180.

Florida over Cincinnati – we like Florida to bounce back against Matt Belisle after being shut out by the Cardinals last night; expect an offensive explosion tonight. Lay $100 on the Marlins - $160.

Cleveland over Texas – it has been suggested that a team playing the first game of a road trip usually does well - considering C.C. Sabathia was pounded in his last start, we expect him to respond with a good outing tonight. Lay $100 on Cleveland - $160.

Boston over Chicago – as bad as the Sox have been, you have to think they’ll break out of it against Javier Vasquez whose career numbers against Boston aren’t very good. Dice-K is the play tonight. Lay $100 on the Sox - $220.

Good luck if you play them.

We’re Out

Don't Drink Chiarelli's Kool-Aid

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special “Hey” goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

“This trade has the potential to help both teams.”

A reflection of how under-whelmed hockey writers in Boston (all three of them?) are with the last brain wave of SenaTards South GM Peter Chiarelli? Or is it their way of saying “We don’t understand this one?”

For those of you in Red Sox Nation who haven’t been following the Bruins this off-season, Bruins GM (and resident “donkey” as my man Tilt likes to say) finalized a relatively minor trade with the SenaTards that sent LW Shean Donovan home to Ottawa in exchange for LW Peter Schaefer.

On the surface, it doesn’t look like a bad trade – the Tards rid themselves of a $2.1M mistake for a guy they tried to sell to fans as a second-line winger in exchange for a relatively cheap serviceable third or fourth line winger who costs $1.2 M less per year. The SenaTards South are telling their fans that they are trading up – exchanging a six goal scorer who wasn’t the physical force they expected him to be, for a second line winger who can contribute to the penalty killing unit and “brings playoff experience to the team.”

The funny thing is that not one hockey analyst/writer has deemed this trade to be a “win-win”.

Let us be the first to say what most local writers can’t say – it’s a “lose-lose” situation. It amounts to a nothing trade that hurts both teams this year (and we like that as members of Leaf Nation).

From the SenaTards point of view – yes, they rid themselves of a $2.1M cap hit for a guy being paid like a second-line winger who played more like a third line winger. However, the Tards can’t, or won’t, apply the savings to acquire a player who can be a second-line winger – they have cap issues as it is, and they are already looking at the 2007/08 off-season where they will have to try to sign Dany Heatley as an unrestricted free agent AND Jason Spezza as a restricted free agent – with Kevin Lowe on the scene, you can bet he’ll be making big offers to both, making the Tards match or lose them.

So the Tards save a million in cap hit but they are stuck with Donovan – a guy who might, and we mean MIGHT, score 10 goals. He’ll struggle to make their third line, and will likely end up as a fourth liner who gets 3 – 6 minutes a game. A $925K cap hit for a fourth line role player who seems to have lost his verve for the physical stuff strikes us as a waste of a roster spot and money.

The Ottawa media is trying to paint this as a “hometown boy comes home and makes good” – but none of them seem really convinced by it. In Schaefer, they had the perfect whipping boy – he made too much money for what he brought to the rink, and he really didn’t try to fight back when they were piling on for his indifferent playoff performance. They might not be so quick to pile on a hometown boy like Donovan. The end result is that they still don’t have a second line winger.

From a Bruins perspective, they get the bookend to Brandon Bochenski – another former SenaTard who couldn’t get it done on a consistent basis…only this bookend costs a lot more than Bochenski. Chiarelli is telling B’s fans that Schaefer brings a physical edge and goal scoring ability to a team lacking in both. Excuse us if we don’t step up to Chiarelli’s Kool-aid stand. Schafer’s best season was coming out of the lockout – where he scored twenty goals playing on the second line of one of the league’s highest scoring teams. His reward was a three year/$6M+ contract. Schafer responded with an indifferent year which saw him go missing far too often – no hits, no goals, nothing… he was seen as a floater, and rightly so. He isn’t big enough to be a physical force on the ice and he doesn’t create offense on his own (relying more on skilled players to get him the puck in good scoring positions– hello Bochenski???). Sure, he works the boards and digs for the puck – but is that, coupled with 10-15 goals worth $2M+ on a team with major holes? We think not.

The Boston media is basically regurgitating what Chiarelli has told them. But, what the Bruins are left with is what the Tards gave up – a guy they hoped would be a second line winger, but is more third-liner who is being paid far too much for what he brings to the rink over 80 games.

Again, we think this is a lose-lose trade. Peter Chiarelli has basically told other GMs across the league that he has no clue what to do with his team – so he’ll just keep looking to Ottawa for inspiration and spare parts.

Questions we have to ask

To Red Sox Nation – after losing 2 of 3 at home to the Royals the lead over the Yankees is now seven games – is it time to start worrying? Admittedly, we’re hating on the Sox for blowing another Pro-Line ticket…losing to freakin’ Odalis Perez????

To Blue Jays fans – your four games out of second in the AL East (since you all seem to be talking about second place in the AL East) and ten games out of a Wild Card spot with four teams ahead of you – is it time to pack it in for the season? Is it time for J.P. to go?

To Leaf Nation – fact or wishful thinking? Do we really believe Islanders GM Garth Snow is dumb enough to talk to JFJ about acquiring Bryan McCabe? Is he really going to take that albatross of a contract off our hands?

To NBA fans – is it just me (I say “me” because I know Tilt doesn’t agree with me on this one) or does anyone else think Lebron James made a complete and utter ass out of himself doing Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative” at the Espys? I caught 30 seconds of the Espys and it happened to be Lebron’s performance…enough for me to turn it off. He probably thought he was showing his humourous side, but apart from Serena Williams – it looked like the audience thought he was a retard – I second, third and fourth that. Lebron hasn’t heard of the word over-exposure (or embarrassing for that matter).

WEDNESDAY’S THREE STARS
Red Sox West RF Andre Ethier hit a three run shot yesterday to lead the Dodgers to a 5-4 win over the Phillies – that trade for Milton Bradley gets better and better every day.

Former Red Sox P Lenny DiNardo pitches seven shutout innings, giving three hits and no walks in Oakland’s 6-0 win over the Rangers – you know we would have suggested the A’s yesterday had we made it in time to post a three play.

Detroit Tigers RF Magglio Ordonez had two hits off Johan Santana, including a two run homer, and drove in all three runs to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Twins.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON THREE PLAY
We had a tough night on Tuesday, a really tough night, but we’ll get back on track today. Total for the week stands at - $95.

Los Angeles over Tampa Bay – here we go again with Anaheim based teams, but we’re backing former Jays P Kelvim Escobar and the Angels to avoid a sweep against Andy Sonnanstine and the DRays. Two things we hate to do: back a team from Anaheim and look to a team to avoid a sweep. Lay $100 on the Angels (line to be posted later).

New York over Toronto – risky here, something tells us that this is the kind of game McGowan will rise to the occasion for; but you can’t ignore Wang’s record against the Jays. Lay $100 on New York (line to be posted later).

We’ll check in later with the night games.

That’s it for this morning gang – thanks for taking the time to check in.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

We’re Out.

Tuesday's Hazies - The Champs & The Chumps

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

For those of you who haven't been here before, we take a look back on the week that was in the world of sports and highlighting some of the more notable performances - to those who have risen above the others, they have the title of "Hazel's Hero" bestowed upon them and are awarded an honourary "Hazie". To those that have distinguished themselves for all the wrong reasons...keep reading. While Hazel hasn't officially approved this week's list, we'd like to think she give a thumbs up.

HAZEL'S HEROES - THE CHAMPS

MLB
St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols was named the National League Player of the Week, finishing the abbreviated week with a .429 batting average, four home runs and five runs driven in. Tony LaRussa may not have thought much of Pujols last week - he sure as hell should this week.

Detroit Tigers OF Curtis Granderson was named the American League Player of the Week after going 8 for 16, with two doubles, a triple, a home run and two runs batted in. We would have picked Yankees RF Bobby Abreu - but that would have been sure to raise the ire of Red Sox Nation.

Cincinnati Reds RF Ken Griffey Jr. continues to move up the all-time home run list - on Monday he hit his 587th to move into sixth place on the all-time list and recorded his 2500th hit this afternoon in Atlanta. What this guy's numbers would have been had he not gone to the Reds and remained injury free...staggering we would hazard to guess.

Houston Astros 2B Craig Biggio has always been considered a good team guy - Astros Manager Phil Garner will tell you he is the ultimate team guy. Just a few weeks after getting his 3,000th hit, Garner sat Biggio down to tell him that he planned to give 2B Chris Burke more playing time to see if he is ready to take over for Biggio. Most athletes would have bitched and complained - Biggio took it in stride and made things easier for Garner by accepting it...for the good of the TEAM. Now that is a champ.

FOOTBALL (SOCCER)
Argentina Forward Sergio Aguero has distinguished himself at the FIFA Under-20 World Championships here. Aguero has provided a couple of highlight reel goals, incredible ball handling skills, and HE DOESN'T DIVE. The tournament wasn't one of the better ones - but this kid is worth the price of admission.

NHL
Edmonton Oilers GM Kevin Lowe has distinguished himself during the NHL's Free Agent frenzy - while we think the Sheldon Souray signing was kind of dumb, Lowe decided that he was going to be a player in the market...one way or another. Lowe chose "another" and he gets our respect for it. For those of you who haven't kept up on the goings on in the NHL since July 1 - Lowe, who has had trouble attracting free agents, offered Sabres LW Thomas Vanek a seven year/$49 million contract to leave the Sabres as a restricted free agent. The offer sent Sabres management through the roof - forcing them to overpay for a guy they expected would come much cheaper. As members of Leaf Nation - WE LOVE IT!

HAZEL'S ZEROES - THE CHUMPS

MLB

The New York Yankees organization just gave everyone another reason to despise them. Seems as though the Yankees revoked Japanese reporter, Hiroki Homma's press credentials after he asked Roger Clemens to autograph a picture. Read the story - what a bunch of jackasses; think they have it in for the Japanese after missing out on Dice-K and getting stuck with Key Igawa?

NHL
Minnesota Wild Enforcer/Winger Derek Boogaard is running a hockey camp for kids in Minnesota - one might think that is a good thing, except Boogaard is charging kids $40 bucks to watch some of his more memorable fights and learn "to protect themselves on the ice." Word is there is bonus footage of Boogaard wiping out Todd Fedoruk.

Former Phoenix Coyotes C (and league loudmouth) Jeremy Roenick recently sent a text message to a reporter from the Philadelphia Inquirer that read "I'm retiring: Is that news." We would have responded "NO - we thought you retired two years ago." But Roenick has let it be known, through his agent (much to everyone's surprise) that he has not officially retired, but is contemplating it. In other words, Roenick wants to wait and see if there is anyone as dumb enough to offer him a contract - unfortunately for Roenick, Peter Chiarelli of the SenaTards South is capped out, or he'd have an offer sheet in hand. Roenick's last couple of years in the NHL saw him go from a serviceable, yet colossal pain in the ass, NHLer to a clown who makes an ass of himself every time he opens his big mouth. To J.R. from hockey fans across Canada - "you can kiss our big white asses now."

Boston Bruins (aka SenaTards South) GM Peter Chiarelli is officially Ottawa's bitch after making a trade for Tards LW Peter Schaefer. Chiarelli is proving he doesn't know much about the NHL because he seems to keep looking for SenaTards castoffs to play for the B's. More on that tomorrow...we have OUR opinion of the trade and you can bet we aren't drinking his kool-aid on this one.

NFL
Atlanta Falcons (for how long) Michael Vick was indicted on charges related to dog fighting - way to go Ron Mexico. And the NFL thinks Pacman Jones is a bad guy.

Former Miami Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper was released by the Miami Dolphins - about friggin time if you ask us. Culpepper is without a doubt the most overrated player in the NFL - Tilt keeps saying he is going to wind up in Dallas...if that happens, I'm going to shoot Tilt first, then turn the gun on myself.

That's it for tonight gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

We're Out.

Quick Hits

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

The NHL may be in for a fight - Portuguese wonder-kid John Tavares' representatives may challenge the NHL's draft eligibility rules in order to have him included in the 2008 Amateur Draft. This one should be interesting - Tavares misses out on the draft by five days. A Portuguese kid being drafted number one overall - who'da thunk it?

NHL Free Agents list here - not sure how much interest many of these guys will generate. Kevin Lowe has his checkbook ready.

Want to know how bad things are for the Blue Jays? The media keeps referring to how many games the Jays are "out of second place" - yup, they aren't even talking Wild Card now...its all about another second place finish in the tough AL East - is that J.P. Ricciardi's definition of progress? Josh being Josh - another Towers-like performance, 5.2 IP, 9 H, 6R, 1BB, 2Ks. Wonder if the Chickenhawk still thinks Towers is a legit starter.

MONDAY'S THREE STARS

Boston Red Sox P Kason Gabbard, starting again in place of the injured Curt Schilling, throws a complete game three hit shutout against the Royals at Fenway; he also gave up a walk and struck out eight. Maybe he'll start his own blog now.

Cincinnati Reds RF Ken Griffey Jr had two hits and drove in four runs in, three of which came on his 587th career home run, to lead the Reds to a 10-3 pounding of the Braves. Griffey moved into sixth place on the all-time list and sits only 15 behind "Skinny" Sammy Sosa for fifth place on the all-time list. Honourable mention goes to Reds starter Bobby Livingstone who was called up from Triple A Louisville for the game - he went 4 for 4 at the plate.

Red Sox West P Brad Penny pitched seven solid innings in limiting the Phillies to one run on four hits and three walks while striking out eight in the Dodgers 10-3 win. Who said anything about a blister problem?

TUESDAY THREE PLAY
We started out the week off on a good note - the first time in a long time - going 2-0 and + $200 to start chipping away at the total for the year. For those of you keeping track (not that we are) we are 13-3 and + $870 over the last five days - hope you got back on the bandwagon. Tonight's suggestions - we're going to the Left Coast:

Oakland over Texas - Here we go again with the "they have to win eventually" suggestion - but with Chad Gaudin going up against Robinson Tejada, you have to think that Oakland puts an end to their eight game losing streak tonight. Gaudin has been very good at home this year, and couple that with Texas' road record and you have a recipe for an A's win. Lay $100 on Oakland - $150.

Seattle over Baltimore - Felix Hernandez is back to pitching the way he should be and that spells trouble for the road wimps from Baltimore who send Jeremy Guthrie to the mound - it will likely be close, but we like Hernandez to shut the O's down making Guthrie a tough luck loser. Lay $100 on the Mariners - $160.

Los Angeles over Philadelphia - don't be scared off thinking that the Phillies will rebound after getting pounded last night - won't happen. This game figures to have its share of runs with Mark Hendrickson facing J.D. Durbin - but we like the Dodgers tonight. Lay $100 on L.A. - $135 and lay $50 on the game going over 8.5 - $130.

New York over San Diego - always risky to go against Peavy - but we think El Duque has enough to shut the Padres down. Reyes and co. manufacture a couple of runs to get it done tonight. Lay $100 on the Mets + $140.

That's it for today gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

We're Out.

Adios Mexico

The game that was hyped as “the game of the tournament” as the FIFA Under-20 World Championship turned out to be decidedly less. Argentina bid “Adios Mexico” yesterday with a 1-0 win here in Ottawa, on a Maximilion Moralez goal seconds before half-time.

Many thought that this would be the game that would really showcase the talent level at the tournament, with two of the more talented and offensive minded teams squaring off – as is often the case, the result was a tentatively played game where both teams worried more about conceding the first goal as opposed to scoring it. As mentioned, Argentina scored the game’s only goal with less than 30 seconds to go in the first half – they came out in the second determined not to let the Mexicans score the equalizer.

The fascinating part about the second half was that both teams looked like they were at a loss as to how to play in a game where the referee decided that he wasn’t going to be involved in determining the outcome of the game. The official in charge of yesterday’s game wasn’t having any of the theatrics and kept his whistle in his pocket – save for a few rough challenges that were punished with yellow cards. The Mexicans started to unravel in the second half – on more than one occasion Giovanni Dos Santos (dubbed “little Ronaldinho) fell like he had been shot, only to pop up three seconds later screaming at the referee for not calling a foul. After realizing that they weren’t going to trick the referee into making a cheap call, Mexico pretty much mailed it in after the 75th minute. They couldn’t overcome their frustration over Argentina’s close marking, and then resorted to some pretty cheap fouls (again by “little Ronaldinho).

In the end, the game was anything but a showcasing of talent, and ended up being what the tournament has become – a defensive, “don’t lose” kind of game where the deciding goals are a result of a lucky bounce or a questionable call.

In what has to be considered a shocker – Brazil beat Argentina 3-0 in the Copa America Final in Venezuela yesterday – Brazil opened the scoring on Julio “The Beast” Baptista’s goal in the third minute and closed it in the 69th minute on a goal by Daniel Alves. Argentina drove the nail into their own coffin by scoring an own goal in the 40th minute – they came into the game heavily favoured to beat a Brazilian team minus the likes of Ronaldinho and Kaka…gotta love our Portuguese cousins from South America.

Do we “congratulate” the Philadelphia Phillies on becoming the first professional sports team to lose 10,000 games? On one hand, it is a dubious honour that we think no team would want to have – on another hand, it does speak to the longevity and history of a team and its to persevere for so long in the face of futility. Do you think the stiffs that used to play the Harlem Globetrotter might take issue with the Phillies’ achievement? Certainly they can lay claim to worst winning percentage…right?

We’re pretty sure that Red Sox Nation is nowhere near ready to push the panic button – but we have to ask. As good as the Red Sox are, is there a team in the majors whose talent level between the starter and bench player as stark as Boston’s? The starting nine is among the best in the majors, without question; however, in watching yesterday’s game, we wondered if the Red Sox could be considered a legit World Series contender with depth chart that is paper-thin after Alex Cora. Could Red Sox Nation really count on the likes of Eric Hinske, Wily Mo Pena and Doug Mirabelli to step up if one of the regulars went down?

We say that knowing full well that our beloved “Red Sox West” have their own issues in marching towards the playoffs – winning anything with 2B Jeff Kent as your cleanup hitter is going to be an uphill challenge to say the least; never mind his woefully inadequate defense. No, we aren’t banking on the arrival of Arod in 2008 as a solution to our problem – he’s going to be Red Sox Nation’s headache if Larry Lucchino has anything to say about it.

SUNDAY’S THREE STARS
Florida Marlins 3B Miguel Cabrera hit two solo home runs in a five to three win over the Nationals yesterday. Oh yeah, he’s a member of the Maeple Leafs in the Yahoo Pool.

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols continues to make manager Tony LaRussa look like a doofus for not getting him into the All-Star Game last week. Pujols hit two home runs and drove in three runs to etch the Phillies name into the record books with a 10-2 loss. Pujols’ big day didn’t help “The Chiarellis” hold on to third place in the other Yahoo Pool.

Texas Rangers 1B Mark Texeira hit a game winning home run in the eleventh yesterday against the Los Angeles Angels – you know the rule hear about Portuguese guys like Texeira…they get play here.

MONDAY THREE PLAY
We ended the week off on a rough note – going 2-2 and taking a hit on the total. We finished last week at + $670, bringing the total for the year down to - $800. We’ll get things in the black in the next couple of weeks – we’re on a roll now.

Chicago over San Francisco – the Cubs have been on fire lately while the Giants have been awful. We’re expecting Rich Hill, pitching for his spot in the Maeple Leafs rotation, to have a big game against a Giants team that can’t seem to get a hit when it matters. Lay $100 on the Cubs - $160.

Los Angeles over Philadelphia – haters of Big Blue will point to the second half woes of Brad Penny as a reason to doubt the Dodgers; we’re not buying it. Penny had his scheduled start Saturday pushed back to today and we think the extra couple days will do wonders for the blister problem he has been having. Lay $100 on the Dodgers - $150.

The rest of the schedule looks ugly – so we’ll leave it alone tonight. Before you ask, while we would normally love the thought of the Yankees going against Josh Towers – Key Igawa’s presence on the mound has us a little gun-shy. Don’t be surprised if the Jays win – though Towers might not make it to the fifth.

That’s it for today gang – thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, we hope things are groovy in your world.

Karma's A Bitch

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae.

We've always maintained here on " Thoughts of Hazel Mae" that karma can be a bitch - and we (as in Leaf Nation) could find out how much of a bitch she can really be. The word out of Toronto is that Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment - in their infinite stupidity - has added the name of Harry Sinden to their list of potential candidates to join the organization as a senior consultant.

After all the crap we've been talking about Harry Sinden - we might actually end up with this guy acting as a consultant...God help us all.

As much as we want to think this is just another stupid rumour with no basis in reality - we know enough about MLSE to know that they would welcome Harry's business acumen to the fold. Sinden was a pioneer in the NHL - he was one of the first GMs to differentiate between winning championships and the organization's bottom line. We've written about Harry's business model here before - so we won't bore those of you who have been reading the page for the last couple of years - basically, it boils down to this.

Championships don't necessarily equal money - under his leadership, you could always count on Harry's team to make the playoffs...he knew enough that a few playoff home gates meant money in the owners pockets - championships meant that players would be looking for more money and that would eat into the profit margin. Just ask Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr.

This looks like a match made in heaven for MLSE and a deal with the devil for Leaf Nation. MLSE is looking more and more like SCTV - first they talk about hiring Sid Dithers (Muckler) and now they are going to Guy Cabellero (Sinden). Hazel, if you are still a member in good standing of Leaf Nation...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The U.S. lost a heart breaker yesterday at the Under-20 World Championships - they went into the game heavily favoured to beat Austria yesterday, but wound up losing 2-1 in extra-time. The U.S. dominated the first half scoring the first goal, but a defensive breakdown lead to both of Austria's goal - the winner came in the 105th minute by striker Erwin "Jimmy" Hoffer. This should put an end to the talk that Freddy Adu is the next greatest thing - he may play in the MLS...but the international game against the world's best is a whole different ball game...one he isn't ready for.

SATURDAY'S THREE STARS
Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz had two hits, including a first inning solo shot, and drove in two runs to lead the Sox to a 9-4 drubbing of Justin McGowan and the Blue Jays...didn't we tell you that yesterday?

Red Sox West 2B Jeff Kent had a tough day in the field, making an error and missing a couple of plays he should have made - but he hit a three run shot and drove in four runs in yesterday's 8-7 win over the Giants.

Montreal Alouettes QB Anthony Calvillo completed 27 of 37 passes for 310 yards and 3 TDs; of note was that AC became a member of the 50,000 yard club and passed Doug Flutie for number 5 on the all-time TD list.

SUNDAY THREE PLAY

Another perfect day yesterday going 4-0 (never mind the "also consider" section - we didn't suggest playing them) and adding $400 to the total, bringing the number up to + $805. For those of you counting, we are 9-1 since the all-star break. We keep the good run going today with the following suggestions:

Boston over Toronto - Beckett vs. Jesse "Rojo" Litsch equals mismatch. We can't see Rojo containing Boston's bats today, he'll be lucky to get out of the fifth today. The Jays, for all their talk, know their season is over - and if they didn't know, Beckett will show them what a playoff pitcher looks like. Boston won't split this series - they'll win 3 of 4 like they should. Lay $100 on the Sox - $220.

Cleveland over Kansas City - we're hating the Tribe today, yesterday's loss to the Royals cost us a nice Pro-Line ticket - thanks for nothing C.C . Sabathia. We like Fausto Carmona to get the Tribe back on the right track today against Jorge De La Rosa and his 5.16 ERA - batting practice for Cleveland today. Lay $100 on the Tribe - $230.

Detroit over Seattle - Jeff Weaver has been pitching better of late - not great, but better than awful (which is what he was earlier this year) - but he is going to face one of the more potent lineups in the AL; and we know his history against the AL. Justin Verlander should keep the M's in check today. Lay $100 on the Tigers - $140.

Oakland over Minnesota - ok, this is one of those "they won't get swept" picks - but you have to think the A's will one of four against the Twins, especially when the match up is Dan Haren vs Boof Bonser (that sounds like a porn name). Lay $100 on the A's - $115.

That's it for today gang thanks for taking the time to check in - we'll be back tomorrow, as we are off to Frank Clair Stadium tonight to see Argentina vs Mexico in the fourth Quarter-Final game of the Under-20 World Championships. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

We're Out.

Does Gary Have An "Off" Button?

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to the soon to be President of Red Sox Nation Hazel Mae.

So the Boston Red Sox are ready to elect their first President of Red Sox Nation - and we say "Who better to represent the Nation than Hazel?" who was nominated for the honour. Hazel, if you are checking in, we'd be honoured to serve as your campaign managers.

We here are "Thoughts of Hazel Mae" love Gary Sheffield as a ball player - there are few guys in the majors that bring what Sheff does to a team: he has all the physical tools, a great bat, and a competitive fire to win like few others. There is no doubt that Sheffield is his own man and one major leaguer who doesn't shy away from sharing his true feelings on an issue (whether or not he is asked).

Sheffield is in the news again, for sharing his views on how he (and other African American players) were treated in New York by Manager Joe Torre. This one strikes us as a little strange, considering that Torre is generally regarded as a class act. According to Sheffield, Torre treats players differently, he cites his belief that Torre has no problem "calling black players out in the media" but when the perceived problem is with a white player "they are called to his office to discuss the situation." Sheffield also made some comments about Derek Jeter "not being black - he's also white", and his strained relationship with Barry Bonds.

We love the guy as a player...given the timing of his comments, with Detroit cruising along, we have to ask - Does this guy have an "off" button?

Quarter-Final day in the FIFA Under-20 World Championships today - meh, who cares now? Anyone interested in buying a good pair of tickets to tomorrow's game of the tournament between Mexico and Argentina? Lemme know.

FRIDAY'S THREE STARS
Red Sox West P Chad Billingsley pitched six shutout innings against the Giants to lead the good guys to a 9-1 win. Billingsley gave up four hits and three walks and struck out two. Dodgers manager Grady Little said Billingsley was outstanding in pitching out of a couple of jams yesterday.

Baltimore Orioles P Eric Bedard pitched seven shutout innings against the White Sox to lead the O's to a 2-0 win - Bedard gave up three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

The aforementioned Gary Sheffield had one hit yesterday, but he made it count with a third inning grand slam to lead the Tigers to a 6-3 win over the Mariners. Gary, just let your bat do the talking man.

SATURDAY THREE PLAY
Well, we look to be back on track with a 3-0 night last night - bringing the total for the week up to + $405. We'll keep things going with another 3-0 night tonight.

Milwaukee over Colorado - We'll back Ben Sheets over Rodrigo Lopez tonight, especially after that Brewers' loss last night to Canadian-born Jeff Francis. We like Milwaukee to jump over Lopez early and often. Lay $100 on the Brewers - $185.

New York over Tampa Bay - We like Chien-Ming Wang to get the Yankees back on track after yesterday's loss (how happy is Red Sox Nation that Clemens signed with New York?) against Andy Sonnanstine. Lay $100 on the pinstripes - $210.

Boston over Toronto - Ok Dice-K, time to put an end to the Blue Jays season - TONIGHT. We like Matsuzaka tonight over Dustin McGowan (who may be in over his head at Fenway)...there had better not be any secret Hazel Karma working for the Blue Jays tonight. Lay $100 on the Sox - $210.

New York over Cincinnati - The Reds have been on a bit of a roll lately, but we can't see them continuing it with Matt Belisle on the mound against Tom Glavine...especially after having beaten John Maine yesterday. Lay $100 on the Mets - $180.

Also consider - San Diego over Arizona, Baltimore over Chicago, and Oakland over Minnesota.

That's it for today gang...thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps!

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world - here's hoping you are elected as El Presidente of Red Sox Nation.

We're Out.

Friday The 13th

Hey Peeps and anyone else checking in. A special "Hey" goes out to Hazel Mae if she is checking in.

Friday the 13th - we should have known it wasn't going to be a good day.

The Under-20 World Championships is over for us - Portugal lost to Chile yesterday by a count of 1-0 and their tournament is over. They had nothing yesterday and looked lost without captain Bruno Gama - Chile scored seconds before the end of the first half and decided to put 10 men behind the ball in the second. The game ended on a farcical note - you had to see it to believe it. Still though, Chile deserved to win the game - no complaints today.

Portugal's youth teams of the late 80's and early 90's, lead by the likes of Luis Figo and Rui Costa, were dubbed the Golden Generation - this current crop of Under-20's didn't even come close to living up to the predecessors. With the exception of Gama and a couple of others, most notably Coentrao and Pele, most of these guys will have played in their last international tournament wearing the Shields as they aren't likely to ever make the senior team. We're still proud of them though.

Toronto Blue Jays fans - are you ready to say "Uncle"? We had a few emailers jumping all over us in response to our comment yesterday that Jays Ace Roy Halladay had been less than stellar of late. Ok, yes he was 6-1 since coming off the DL, HOWEVER, his ERA was into the high 4's and he had been knocked around in a few starts. After watching the first inning of the Jays v Red Sox yesterday, we are absolutely convinced that Halladay is injured - he had nothing on his fastball and his curve wasn't as sharp as it normally is; just ask the Red Sox. Halladay was rocked for four first inning runs and looked like he wasn't going to survive the barrage - he is definitely NOT 100%; sorry Jays fans, your chances of getting a playoff spot were slim going into last night's game - if Halladay is hurt, your chances are none.

News from the NHL - the happiest man in the NHL today is Maple Leafs D Bryan McCabe. McCabe had to have been breathing a huge sigh of relief when the Edmonton Oilers announced that had signed former Habs D Sheldon Souray to a deal worth $5.4M per year. Souray = McCabe - big shot on the power play, somewhat ineffective 5 on 5, and a defensive liability. Suddenly McCabe's $5.7M deal doesn't look nearly as retarded as it did a couple of days ago.

Speaking of retarded - ARod has told the Yankees that he doesn't want to talk contract extension until the end of the season; the number being thrown around for his services next year was thought to be about $30M/year (yes, THIRTY FREAKING MILLION) - however, with news that Ichiro is ready to sign a 5 year/$100M deal with the Mariners...you'd have to think ARod's price just went up. Do we hear $35M? $37M?

Not much to say today - we're pressed for time (and a little depressed today).

THURSDAY'S THREE STARS
Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz had three hits yesterday and drove in two to lead Boston to the 7-4 win. Surgery on his knee can wait.

New York Yankees RF Bobby Abreu also had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three to lead the Yankees to a 7-3 win in Tampa. Relax Yankees fans...its only the DRays.

Chicago White Sox RF Jermaine Dye hit a home run (surprise surprise he had three hits) and drove in two to lead the Sox to a 9-7 win over the Orioles - bad for our Three Play.

FRIDAY'S THREE PLAY

We were 2-1 yesterday, so we start the abbreviated week at + $105. We'll get to our total for the year on Monday - yes, its still a little ugly, but we'll make a dent in it this week (- $1,475).

Chicago over Houston - we like the Big Z to get it done against Houston today. Lay $100 on the Cubs - $175.

Minnesota over Oakland - a mismatch today, Johan Santana vs former Red Sox P Lenny DiNardo; this one could get ugly in a hurry tonight. Lay $100 on the Twins - $250.

Los Angeles Angels over Texas - we still haven't learned our lesson about Anaheim based teams, but the Angels will be looking for payback after a bad series in Arlington a while back. Former Jays P Kelvim Escobar goes up against Kevin Millwood - so you know the Angels are going to get their share of hits and runs. Lay $100 on the Angels - $210.

That's it for this morning gang - thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

I'm Out.

West Coast Shocker

We’re guessing most people reading the page are gearing up for the second half of the season in MLB – we have to start off today with the opening games in the Round of 16 at the FIFA Under-20 World Championships. To use one of my man’s Tilt’s favourite words – yesterday was all about the “shocker”, literally and figuratively.

The North American knock on “football” has always been that it is slow and boring – granted, some (ok, many) games can be like that, but in this particular age bracket you can get some very exciting games and yesterday was proof positive.

The Uruguayans must have felt like they were on the receiving end of the (get ready for it Tilt) the “West Coast Shocker”. In what started out as a chess match between two teams not wanting to make a mistake in a do or die game – the last twenty minutes of regulation and the extra-time were something special. Uruguay got a gift goal in the 73rd minute when American goalkeeper, Brian Perk, mishandled a header (stop laughing Tilt…these are football terms) in the box and spilled it to allow Luis Suarez to score the opening goal.

Uruguay, with less than 15 minutes left in regulation, went into full defensive mode – which included over dramatizing injuries to waste time. They looked to be home and cooled and on their way to the Quarter-Finals when the U.S. introduced them to the shocker – scoring a goal in the 87th minute when a Uruguayan player deflected a cross in the box into his own net; it is not bad as it sounds though, had the defender not put it in his own net, the U.S. would have scored anyways with a striker there to knock it home.

The first half of extra-time was relatively subdued – but the Uruguayans must have felt like they were on the receiving end of the West Coast Shocker when Michael Bradley scored the go-ahead and decisive goal one minute into the second half of extra-time off of a corner kick. Three minutes away from a Quarter-Final date to a long plane ride home wondering what happened. Donations for sending the Uruguayans a lifetime supply of K-Y are now being accepted.

The Samba Boys from Brazil can certainly relate to the Uruguayans pain this morning – they took a 2-0 first half lead, scoring in the 40th and 42nd minutes, and looked to be in control of the game. But (pun intended) Spain scored a controversial (read “cheap”) goal a minute before half time on a goal that should have been disallowed. Spanish defender Pique looked to redirected a cross into the box with his arm for Spain’s first goal – there was no doubt about it, the goal should have been disallowed; the referee may not have been in a position to see what happened, but one of the linesman should have seen it. Three blind mice – ahhhh the beauty of FIFA.

Still though, Brazil had the game in their hands, leading up until the 85th minute when Javier Garcia tied it for Spain. Things unraveled for the usually unflappable Brazilians – a goal by Spain in the 103rd minute and a red-card for Brazil on the same play, and a game ending goal in the last minute of play sends Brazil home wondering what happened – favoured to win the tournament, losses to the U.S. and Poland leaving them in 3rd place after the group stage, and a loss in the Round of 16 – OUCH.

The Japanese face an even longer flight home, asking themselves many of the same questions the South Americans are asking. Japan scored in the 22nd and 47th minute in their game against the Czech Republic – the lead held up the next quarter hour before the Czech managed to draw to penalties in the space of four minutes, converting both penalty kicks to tie the game. The game was not without further drama as a Czech player Jackub Mares was sent off for a second yellow card eight minutes after scoring the game tying goal. The Czechs held the Japanese at bay for the next 35 minutes before winning the game on penalties – fitting since three of the four goals in regulation were scored on penalties.

In the other game, the high flying (read DIVING) Gambians finally got their just desserts, losing by a count of 2-1 to Austria. The Gambians were looked at as one of the feel good stories of the tournament – not here though, they took diving/faking/time wasting to a new level…one the Italians could only hope to reach. Good riddance and goodbye Gambia…you won’t be missed.

Why are we talking about all these shockers? Well, we are hoping for a little bit more of the same (and some Hazel Karma) as Portugal takes on Chile tonight in Edmonton. The tournament to this point as been a disappointment for Portugal, losing to Mexico was bad, losing to Gambia was an embarrassment – but they can erase all that tonight with a win over the favoured Chileans. Portugal goes into this game missing their Captain Bruno Gama (see entry “In Bruno We Trust”) and is going to need the likes of Fabio Coentrao, Pele, and Antunes to really step up. We’re hoping for one more shocker to be delivered to a South American team.

Hazel’s hometown Blue Jays visit Boston for a four-game series at Fenway – the funny thing is that some in the Toronto media are pointing to this series as a “crucial” four gamer that will make or break Toronto’s season. A few of the more delusional members of the media (a former colleague of Hazel’s by the name of Jason Portuondo) have actually talked about how a four-game sweep would put the Jays right back into the thick of things in the A.L East; while others (another one of Hazel’s former colleagues Jim Lang) have suggested that J.P. Ricciardi should entertain the thought of trading OF Alex Rios for a number one pitcher (what about Halladay?). “Clubber” thinks the Jays have to shake things up and trade a future superstar in Rios, to get 15 starts from a pitcher this year. Blue Jays fans…funny.

WEDNESDAY’S THREE STARS
Argentina Midfielder Lionel Messi scores an absolutely sublime (read SICK) goal against Mexico at the Copa America yesterday.

Austria Striker Erwin “Jimmy” Hoffer comes off the bench to score the winner against Gambia at the Under-20’s yesterday. Again…GOOD RIDDANCE GAMBIA.

Tilt will love this one – we are going outside the world of sports on this one. The North Korean government announced it will ban Karaoke bars – special thanks to Tilt’s “Separated at birth twin” Kim Jong-il.

THURSDAY’S THREE PLAY
We’ll get the total tomorrow – it isn’t good, so we can’t blame you for being a little sour on our picks. We’ll get things back in the black today.

Baltimore over Chicago – we like Jeremy Guthrie over Jon Garland who was spanked in his last start; Garland hasn’t pitched particularly well in Baltimore. Lay $75 on the O’s - $125.

Boston over Toronto – Big Papi may need surgery, Roy Halladay may be pitching at less than 100% - what to do? Go with Boston tonight – they’ll get their hits and runs off of Halladay who has been less than stellar over the last month. Lay $100 on the Sox - $140.

New York over Cincinnati – speaking of getting lit up, Bronson Arroyo has been having a terrible season – throw out his last good start, he’s going to get hit early and often tonight as the Mets looking to end a recent bad run. Lay $100 on the Mets with El Duque - $160.

That’s it for today gang – thanks for taking the time to check in. Have a great one peeps. Special thanks to Tilt for posting this.

Hazel, I hope things are groovy in your world.

I’m Out.
